We had a lovely upgraded kingsize room on the ground floor. Very simple but tasteful decor. Bathroom very nice & fresh too. 2 pillows this time & a hairdryer that worked! All the staff are lovely, especially the night manager who is so polite. I believe he may have cooked the breakfast we had which was just beautiful. Excellent choice & quality. Our room was spot on, spacious, very clean, we had a great night's sleep, great place to stay when you're travelling up Scotland, we didn't get to see much of the area because we set off on our travels after breakfast, the breakfast was plentyful and delicious, would definitely stay here again. Bed to soft ( I prefer a harder mattress.) When taking my medication soon after arrival I couldn't find one of the two tablets I take, my husband said "here it is you dropped it" and gave me a white capsule from just under the bed. Staff helpful and efficient. Nothing particularly excellent, but it doesn't claim to be 5*. Some of the reviews I read were, in my opinion, unjustified. The test for the Gilvenbank (or any other establishment) is "Would I stay there again?" The answer is definitely "Yes". Good value. Especially suitable for anyone bound for St Andrews, where accommodation is absurdly expensive. It takes less than half an hour to get there.Guest review byKenSolo traveller

The staff were exceptionally helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Heather in the breakfast room was also extremely helpful and could not do enough for us.
