The accommodation is a very big tradition Japanese house. The host is very friendly and interesting. You may request the host to prepare (DIY) BBQ for dinner. It is delicious and interesting, highly recommended. They heat the volcano stone to cook the BBQ.

Let me start with an advise; when you come to Japan go to Kyushu and stay in this hotel. My wife and I enjoy our last evening here (we stayed 5 nights) and this hotel is excellent. The location, the room (we stayed in the suite), the food, but most of all the excellent staff. The staff make you feel welcome, the service is warm and personal, yet professional at the same time. They know who you are from the moment you arrive. One of the best performances we experienced and we travel a lot. My wife has a rare allergy and they provided special meals for here. Exceptional. The hotel is also very clean and is recently renovated. The onsen in the room and the public one are comfortabel / beautiful. The location is perfect to visit Mount Aso, Kumamoto, Beppu, Oita, Takachiho gorge et cetera. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Our stay was perfect! We decided to enjoy the beauty of Aso a bit longer and booked the house quite late, but everything went great. The host was very kind and communicated with us in English. When we arrived, it felt like visiting parents in a cozy country home — we felt so comfortable. And the breakfast was delicious! Thank you for the warm welcome and a lovely stay — we and our kids really enjoyed it.

The place was very cute, super comfortable, clean, and welcoming. I felt right at home and the entire building is sitting in this very cute location. The owner had 2 cats which roam around the property. It was great to see them. The hosts were also very attentive and friendly. I had a great time speaking to them in Japanese, but they seem to manage really well with people don't speak Japanese. The best thing for sure was that they totally saved me twice! I didn't realize how rural this place was when I booked it. On the map, it looked more accessible on foot and it was only when I was heading to Aso that I would be in trouble because of my luggage. The host offered to pick me up from Akamizu and the even to take me back to get dinner/use the onsen. Later, they also offered to drive me to Tateno station for my departure train. This saved me so much stress. I couldn't walked with my luggage, but it would have been miserable. Overall, I had a really wonderful time staying here. Felt very peaceful and I was able to relax, especially after my long hike on Mt. Aso.

The location was beautiful - the windows overlooked rice fields and a forested areas. We were able to enjoy nature without having any creepy crawlies enter the property. The house was spotless and the furniture and equipment looked very new. The house had pretty much all the basic amenities we expected and we had a very comfortable 1-week stay, cooking lots of meals from the kitchen in the property. We also loved that there was a BBQ pit embedded in a table right on our own porch. We had many barbecues during our stay because it was lovely to grill our meats while enjoying the early summer weather in the evenings. The property owners were also responsive and helped us with the queries we had very quickly over Booking.com messaging. The shower and bath were very clean and new. We enjoyed hot baths using the tub which filled automatically. All in all, we were very sad to leave! We loved how quiet and close to nature the house was and loved the beautiful views of the area. We were also able to use the property as a base to visit Mt Aso for hiking and make day trips to Takachiho Gorge. We would love to stay again at this property.

    We loved this place, very clean and new (we stayed in the little house with two adjacent rooms). Great views from the rooms. Little nice garden outside. Very kind hosts who provided us with rice balls for our trip when we left. Road to house is small and narrow but no problem for our medium sized car.

    We had a very nice stay at the hostel. The hosts were so kind and friendly, giving us much help and travel advice. Thank you for taking us to the train station and letting us enjoy the sight of fireflies. We will cherish these memories of our stay in Japan. Also, we were happy to have the company of the lovely resident cats during our stay.

    We loved our stay at Wakka! We were greeted by the friendly couple and Akira the cat :) Even though we were early we could check in. The house was beautiful and cozy with lovely big windows to the mountains. It was super clean and well planned, so we could easily stay four people. The kind hostess gave us tips about nearby supermarket, so we coule buy food and eat at the outdor table :) When we left we were offerer homemade onigiri! We had a great time and would definitely stay again!

    Excellent accommodations in a great location near mt aso and Takachiho gorge. Kawasaki San was very nice and extremely helpful. He provided maps, recommended activities and even helped us get dinner reservations. His dog was also very sweet brightened our trip.

    The cottage style accommodation and the half board meals fantastic. Both the dinner and breakfast exceeded expectations. The starry tour to the observatory and I was fascinated by the sophisticated equipment they have, including an “iMax” theatre!! Overall a very cozy and experiential stay! Once in a lifetime experience.

    - Staff was super friendly with us, also gave us a quick onigiri meal before leaving by car - The accomodation had a free parking lot nearby - All equipment was clean, feels new, and we had no issue at all, even if we stayed just one night - There is a nice hot spring only 10 min by walk, which is super handy. It gets very dark, but with the lamp given by the staff we accessed it very easily. Also the staff provided a map of with other hot springs. - Beds and room in general is very confortable
