The Monaco is a large guest house strategically located in central Ushuaia, on the commercial San Martin Street. It offers pleasant rooms and a tour desk for booking regional excursions. Great location, not far from the main shopping area of Ushuaia, and close to a large supermarket.
Amazing and beautiful city at the "end of the world" as they call it. Fantastic landscapes, the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises I have ever seen. Plenty of shops and restaurants on the main street (my favorites were Augusto Ushuaia and La Cantina De Freddy - order any position from menu! All delicious!). Next to the port you may order excursions - I had 4hrs on catamaran with Tolkeyen to see sealions, small island and lighthouse; Piratour offered the best excursion to island with penguins (yes, it is totally worth it as you literally walk among them!); Terramar offered me a morning tour to Tierra del Fuego park on the train and then with few short hikes in the best park locations. Definitely a must-see place!
Loved Ushuaia. It was a stop off before our amazing Antarctica expedition. We have traveled to other areas of Patagonia that we thought were prettier and easier to hike. Every hike in Ushuaia had a price tag even when not booking a tour but we had a lot of fun here.
Fortunately, the weather was great while we were there for 2 days. The town is very quaint and the restaurants we ate at were great. Don't miss the jail museum, it is fantastic and I'm not a museum goer. I would love to go back as there are some tours I'd like to take.
Would have liked to explore the town centre more. Also couple of trips from Ushuaia - to lakes, the glacier and a boat trip to the lighthouse. Probably four to five days. Maria Lola was great for dinner. Ramos General's El Almacen is worth a visit.
We went in the winter, so days are shorter (sunrise closer to 9am) and dark by 5:30. There is a lot to see and do, and very worth while and unlesse you are planning to ski, 3 days is enough. Keep in mind that tours (in the winter) have pick-ups around 8am, so bookings must be made in advance or the day before (once you arrive). We waited to book to see weather conditions. There is a lot to see and do!
The end of the world is well worth a visit. If you don't plan to go skiing, 3-4 days are enough to see the main spots. I wouldn't recommend a longer stay as there is not that much to see. Great restaurants available, I would definitely recommend Paso Garibaldi, amazing dinner there. You need to do a boat tour of Beagle canal, seeing the Sea lions, penguins, birds, Faro Les Eclaireurs, it's a must. Nice hike up to Glaciar Martial. The Train of the end of the world and the National Park are great adventures. Overall, a great trip I would recommend, but I preferred other spots in Patagonia, especially Bariloche.
