Enjoy a swim in the pool at Cara Motel, located 5 minutes’ drive from Station Square Shopping Centre. It offers rooms with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV and a DVD player. Second stay at the Cara motel, and with risk of sounding like a fake review, everything was perfect and to our expectations as with the first stay over 2 years ago. Not only have they maintained their quality with regards to extremely friendly and helpful service, cleaning is top notch and beds are still just as comfy. Great location with both a corner store and coffee shop not even 20 meters away. Parking right by the room, we did not need it but most travel here by car so don't need to find a park far away, just park outside the room! Neighbours are never rowdy here, (you would barely know they existed if the cars weren't around) - the location and rooms don't really tempt anyone to be rowdy, it gives more of a classic motel vibe to stay for the night while on a roadtrip or visiting locals or family in the area. So if you need a good nights sleep, you will get it here! Came during winter so didn't use the pool but it was very inviting when we had sunny days. Looked very clean and well maintained. As well as the pool area with good spot to get the full day of sun. Also loved the soaps and hair products available in the bathroom, unlike high end hotels who give you a tiny bottle barely enough for one head of hair, there is plenty here (which gets filled up by housekeeping) saving you from rushing to the shops for soap just to get that first evening shower after a long day of driving. Late check out wasn't an issue, getting the key couldn't have been easier and for any Maryborough stay I have in the future, it will be here. I sadly did not catch her name, but the lovely long, black haired young woman at the reception was an absolute delight and made us feel right at home.

Even with the rain falling nearly the entire time we were in Maryborough, the town’s charm still shone through. From its beautifully preserved heritage buildings to the friendly locals and relaxed pace, there’s a quiet magic to the place that no amount of rain can wash away. The streets were peaceful, the cafes warm and welcoming, and there’s something oddly soothing about watching the historic town glisten in the rain. Fittingly, the skies cleared on the day we left, revealing just how stunningly beautiful Maryborough truly is. We’ll definitely be back—hopefully with a little more sunshine next time!
There is a lot to see in Maryborough. Be there for Thursday morning and go to the Market in Adelaide St. Good quality and well priced produce. Stock up on Honey. Many Heritage Buildings and Museums to visit.
So much history in Maryborough. The military museum is one of the best in Australia. The Gallipoli trail is a must. The river is lovely and the town is peaceful but has everything you want for a few days to see all the history.
Convenient location. Walking distance to to nearby shops and take away food outlets. Room was clean, tidy and well stocked. Motel staff every accomodating and attentive. Would recommend staying here.
We were visiting family so didn't do anything much touristy this time. We were there mid December for Christmas and found the weather hot, humid and almost unbearable without air con. (we used to live in Maryborough) There was a breeze some of the time but it's best to stay in the shade if you can. Lots of that in the parks. If you are into heritage stuff, then you could spend a week in Maryborough and not see it all. Museums are great as are the ghost walks and walking tours of the town. Beautiful parks and gardens with a water park (within Anzac Park on Alice St,) for your kids which is more than adequate for a days fun. Bike paths, skate park, feed the wildlife like ducks, geese, turtles, eels in the lagoon adjacent to the golf course which is part of the park. Lots of exercise equipment and climbing frames, swings, balance beams and a flying fox. Grades from toddlers to adults across several spaces. A Riverside walk and a steam train called the Mary Ann are at Queens Park as well as a band stand and tribute to the ANZACS. You could spend the day in this park too. Quiet spots to sit and admire the garden beds. Not a fan of takeaway food but most of the coffee shops have a good range of sandwiches and salads. The pubs offer the usual fare, none of which we eat but have been told is good.
Maryborough has a lot of history which is showcased in the museums, preserved buildings and murals displayed around the town. Mary River Parkland overlooking the river was a lovely place to sit and take in the serenity of the beautiful trees. The volunteers were a mine of information about the town and pointed out places I had missed, making sure my visit was kept alive with new experiences. I visited: The Story Bank Museum (think Mary Poppins), The Bond Museum, Gatakers Art Space (Gallery) and Jinx Art Gallery (check out the FB page) and the pièce de résistance the public toilets aptly named The Cistern Chapel, not a spelling mistake, attached to the City Hall in Kent Street. If this is the only thing you visit, make it a priority, but try and make time for the other places too :-) I stayed at the Carriers Arms which was comfortable and has a cafe and restaurant attached and reasonably priced.
