We had a 5 night stay in Vancouver and packed a lot in; Granville Island, shopping in the city centre, trip to Victoria (went out by seaplane and back by ferry), Vancouver aquarium and Stanley Park; the art gallery and Christ Church cathedral, space museum and planetarium, Gastown area and the Waterfront. Also managed to catch an ice hockey game! It's a great city for public transport - buy an all-day ticket from a Skytrain station - and there's lots of cafes, bars and restaurants although I struggled with gluten-free options. Shopping is good too - Downtown for all the major names and Granville Island for local crafts. Would avoid the area east of Gastown.
Lonsdale Quay and The Shipyards have lovely cafes, bars, restaurants, and shops, and further down, the craft brewery area is fun too. Lynn Canyon Park has lots of lovely walks, and the trip up Grouse Mountain has lots to offer everyone. Easy access to Downtown Vancouver using the Seabus.
Of all the cities we have been to in Canada this seems to us to be the nicest one of them all. Beautiful, modern and pleasant scenery. We would recommend the city to anyone. This city can be walked, biked, ... Stanley park is a jewel and it is vast. The perimeter walk is 10 km if I am not mistaken. Capilano bridge is a must, if not for the bridge, its for the trees! Our property was located in the eastern part of Vancouver center and to come back I would definitely look for a property in the western part of the city in order to cut down on walk time ant to take advantage of that part of the city. Be prepared to see homeless people in the city. They keep to themselves however a sad situation to witness. I'm assigning no blame here. This city was super clean and we felt safe to walk it.
North Vancouver is a wonderful place to wander around or go by bike. There are lots of walking trails through the woods between houses. You can go between city and wilderness as you wish. The Seabus allows you to zip over to Vancouver without having to set foot in a car or find parking.
So much to see and do, and most of it easy to get to. Public Transport was excellent and easy to use. On our first stay in Vancouver prior to a cruise we were in East Hastings which meant driving through a pretty rough area full of drug affected persons, but this was educational as I had no idea just how bad fentanyl problem was. (Cant say I was impressed by the plethora of shops in same area selling marijuana, as this seemed to be part of the drug addiction problem). Post cruise we stayed closer to the cruise port and saw a completely different side of Vancouver. During our pre and post cruise stays we visited Lynn Canyon, Grosse Mountain, Stanley Park, Van Dussen Gardens, Granville Markets, did a short ferry tour from the markets, took a day tour to Whistler, admired the Marine Building and other deco buildings in the central theatre area, did the FlyOver Canda experience, visited Gastown (and were underwhelmed by the clock). Basically we wore our legs to stumps and had a lovely time and plan to go back in 2027 as the start of a longer exploration of Canada
North Van was better than downtown in our opinion. Lots of bars, restaurants and retail. Harbourside was lovely and wherever you were around Lonsdale Avenue there seemed to be great transport links. Definitely recommend a trip to walk round Stanley Park!
