Had a long layover in Xiamen and wanted somewhere close to the airport for the night. The hotel is only a few mins drive from the airport and they have free airport pick up service (note- you need to call the hotel ahead to arrange). The actual hotel is beautifully decorated with different art installations and each room has a different theme. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Will definitely be staying here again!

Best service I've experienced in my life. Mr. Wei is very thoughtful to help you in any way he can. If you have a layover night or for a visit, stay here instead! Having a local helping you out with excellent service is a benefit you probably won't get anywhere else. The room is cozy, place is quiet, lots of street food right outside too! I would stay here over whatever the airlines book for me.

Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport (XMN) Information

Location and Transport

Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is located at the northeast end of Xiamen island, about 6 miles (10 kilometres) from the downtown area, and connected by a shuttle bus service, which departs every 20 minutes outside T3 arrivals. Taxis are also available outside Arrivals areas, costing around RMB 40, with a journey time of 30 minutes.

Gulangyu island was a disappointment.

Gulangyu island was a disappointment. There is so much potential but mass tourism has led to cheap and nasty food offerings whilst many historical buildings are empty or boarded up. The ferries are overcrowded and dare I say somewhat dangerous because so many people are standing on the upper deck. Zhongshan Road is pedestrianised and fun to walk down and window shop although there's nothing really original to buy there. The Yundang Wai Lake area is much more classy and worth a stroll around the leafy roads. There are hidden gems in Xiamen but you need to do a lot of research before going because the usual Top 10 sights are mass tourism and quite disappointing.

Xiamen is a fascinating city that has a blend of European influence and traditional Chinese culture/ This city has a lot to offer. I would recommend a night on Gulungyu Island to really take in all the island has to offer. Also, it best to come in the shoulder months of summer as the heat made our trip less enjoyable.

It´s not really worth the travel time.

It´s not really worth the travel time. Not really something special to see there, only if you´ve seen everything else. The so called town center (Xiamen Island) is 30-40 minutes away from Xiamenbei (Xiamen North) railway station. Try to get a connection to Xiamen station (it´s on the island). To the Hakka Roundhouses you can go easier directly.

Exceptional hotel, we stayed in during a long layover and got the full rest we hoped we'd get to help fight jet lag. Hotel is 10 min taxi (4€ in yuen) from the airport and in an oasis of peace. Easy check in, spacious room, amazing bathroom. Breakfast was fantastic, probably the best I've had in years of travel! Keep in mind all staff isn't as fluent in english as you'd expect in a hotel with such standards. But overall our go-to place for our next lay-over in XMN.
