Hippos and baboons can be seen from the safety of your riverside tent. Make sure to bring a set of ear plugs as the hippos are extremely loud during twilight hours. Hyena can also be heard at night time with their signature ‘whoo up’ sounds. The camp is situated on the Talek River which makes it situated in the heart of the habitat of local wildlife. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, food is amazing and the pool is handy in between game drives. The bar area is a fantastic place to talk to other visitors about your experiences while enjoying coffee or a bottle of Tusker or Two, be sure to try a cocktail made by the Maasai Maras number one mixologist Gideon and his assistants. Where to start with the game drives. This has to be hands down the most enjoyable experience I have ever had. A four day game drive gave me the opportunity to see the ‘Big Five’ and everything else the Maasai Mara had to offer. The highlight of the trip has to be watching a large male Lion steal a kill from a clan of Hyena at sunrise. I was also fortunate enough to see three week old Lion cubs and four separate Leopards. A lioness was also chased into the bush by a herd of elephants and unbeknown, a Black Rhino came hurtling out of the bush. My guide and guardian Johnathan was on point everyday and knew where to find the local wildlife. I also had the opportunity to visit a Maasai Village and experience the culture of the legendary Maasai Warriors. Ashnil Mara Camp is situated in the Maasai Mara National Reserve overlooking the Mara River, famous for the wildebeest migration. It features a swimming pool and a souvenir shop. Love this camp. Right in the heart of Mara reserve. View of river is lovely. Not all rooms have view but lodge view is top. Hippos and crocodiles in river. Great sounds at night. Lovely location for exploring Mara. Staff was amazing. Great food and so nice. Hope I return one day
