Different to my prior travelling experiences, however once I settled in and became more familiar with locals customs and found the basic services, so I grew to really like Nairobi. The climate, the weather is sensational, overall the people are generally very friendly and welcoming. The fact that pretty much all speak very good English, simply makes the stay so much more pleasant and enjoyable.
Nairobi is a bigger city than I expected. Getting around during off peak times is reasonable easy, however it can be quite busy during peak times. Getting through the international airport can be a painful experience as you have to get out of the car and go through security as you get to the main gate to the airport. You then have to scan all your luggage, remove belts etc. as you enter the terminal, check in, go through immigration and then go through full security again.
The only city I know to have a National Park in the center of town... if you like animals there's some interesting places nearby. Also a big National Museum with a snake house. My favorite was the orphaned elephant rescue center .
If you really want a lovely enjoyable holiday in Kenya that you will look back upon and make you want to return then do this.DO NOT STAY IN NAIROBI!!AVOID IT PLEASE.Fly straight to Mombasa and i promise you that you will have a great holiday and you will return to Mombasa. This is my true opinion and i hope it helps people not to make the mistake i made.
Nairobi was a wonderful experience — vibrant city life mixed with warm hospitality. The traffic can test your patience, but the people, food, and energy more than make up for it. Every visit leaves me wanting to return.
Amazing Growing Metropolitan; Every time one visits the City there is something new coming up. This time there were too many new high rise Apartment blocks in what was previously the leafy suburb of Kilimani/Valley Arcade/Lavington; thereby sacrificing the charm of the traditional natural landscape for the new Concrete jungle within. I was sad to see part of Uhuru Park chimed-off for a taxi park (another concrete installation). I doubt the late Prof, Wangari Mathai Green Belt Mov't endorsed the project. All love is not lost for the Great City of Nairobi, there are may other hidden gems, where one can get some good old fashioned Peace and Quiet such as Deerpark Luxury Stays.
