Its a lovely place!
Its a lovely place! The people sre very welcoming. It is small but charming. I do have to say that the nice beaches are not that close, but the town and everything it has to offer around it is worth the visit!

We read incredible reviews of Campeche in both The Lonely...
We read incredible reviews of Campeche in both The Lonely Planet and The Rough Guide, as to how beautiful it was and so planned to stay two nights, however, we ended up staying only one as there wasn’t that much to do there, and actually preferred Valladolid and Merida. We didn’t think it was any prettier than other places, and we preferred to have an extra night in Merida which we thought more stunning with more character.

Campeche City is a very laid back city.
Campeche City is a very laid back city. Younger visitors may think too much so, but for older (non-party) visitors, it has everything you could ask for. History, shopping, food. Tours of the city and to Mayan ruins are readily available. Excellent mercado.

We've lived in Merida for 2 years and Campeche is our favorite get-away. Seaside on the Gulf with a long and beautiful Malecon. Any type of restaurant you could ask for. The entire Historical Centro is very walkable. The portions of the remaining fortification are impressive. Plenty of tours to take and sightseeing to do. In our travels in Mexico, we have not encountered a nicer main Mercado. Not the largest, but one of the cleanest with some of the best produce we've found. They do not have Uber, but the taxis are reasonably priced.

It was quiet, clean, modern.
It was quiet, clean, modern. Hot water, hair dryer, iron. Only two blocks to ocean, good coffee, great restaurants and good shopping. The staff understood English and I felt totally safe walking at night.
