I arrived late and Lionel was very accommodating and made me feel welcome. He gave me ongoing travel information and dinner recommendations. The room was comfortable and clean. The rear yard was lovely and lush, when I looked in the morning. I only wish I had more time to stay a few days. Lake view from the front balconey too.

Offering an outdoor pool and a restaurant, Hotel de Campo is located in Caño Negro Wildlife Reserve in Alajuela. Free WiFi access is available in this property in limited areas. The location was beautiful, right next to the lagoon and river that floods during the rainy season. A great location for birding, and definitely recommend getting the boat birding tour that's offered. Food was great too. It's recommended to arrive from the North, rather than Upala, as the roads are better that way, although you can still travel slowly from the South with a high-clearance 4×4 vehicle when the roads are dry. Worth the trip, though; many unique birds are here and the surrounding lands. Bring a lot of cash beforehand.

The property has everything you need and the food was delicious - the owners are a lovely family and the staff truly cared about us and wanted us to have a great time Definitely recommend the bird watching boat tour, it was one of the highlights of our trip. We booked both the AM and PM boat trips are they visit different parts of the river, we saw so much wildlife despite visiting when the water level was peak high
