What a lovely, quiet, spacious and well appointed retreat. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will gladly recommend it to friends headed this way. In particular, we appreciated the breakfast items and little snack extras provided by gracious hosts, Doug and Sandra, and loved the tastefully furnished patio & expansive lawn area. The apartment was located in very pleasant, quiet, semi-rural surroundings just outside the town itself and very close to a beach. Whakatane is a beautiful, very tidy town with ample dining venues & amenities, scenic sights and lookouts within easy reach and a wonderful, safe surf beach on the other side of town. The eastern end of the Bay of Plenty is well worth visiting - really a must for anyone visiting New Zealand!

It was nice to be close to the beach but for the price you...
It was nice to be close to the beach but for the price you pay it's not worth it, no milk tea or coffee, you have to take you own bedding and towels and for the price I could have got a motel or hotel close to the beach for a lot cheaper and wouldn't have had to pack bedding and towels etc.

not many restaurant options are in Thorton itself - you do need to travel to Whakatane. the room itself does have cooking facilities - so bring food with you as you can virtually just stay at Thorton the whole time if you are organised and prepared well enough.
