Highly recommend this hotel. Great location, have 711 opposite, as well as some stalls for coffee, food etc. Many restaurants and cafes nearby. Walking distance to Walking street and the promenade, also immigration office if required. Very clean, modern rooms. Friendly staff, arranged tuktuk for me to go to gym. Comfortable bed. I enjoyed my 5 days stay here.

The view from the vacation home is stunning. There are plenty of rooms, and they are very comfortable. Everyone loved it and was impressed, especially with the balcony—it’s absolutely wonderful!
The accommodation provides 2 bicycles, which are city bikes and quite decent. You can take them for a ride along the cycling path by the Mekong River.

Friendly helpful staff... I left my luggage here for 4 days while I crossed into Laos to go riding motorcycles. Near to walking street and good bars/restaurants. Clean rooms.

Interesting town and well worth a visit.
Interesting town and well worth a visit. Alongside the Mekong river, it has some good restaurants and there seem to be mainly Thai visitors. Calm and pleasant atmosphere, friendly locals. Try to visit at the weekend when the "walking street" evening market is excellent.

It's worth staying for a day and a night just to see the...
It's worth staying for a day and a night just to see the historic area with the French colonial buildings. The place was pretty empty when we were there and some restaurants were closed so it's not really that happening during the rainy season. Managed to get two nice sunsets which was a bonus because it was raining for much of the time we were there and we had zero expectations of seeing a sunset on the Mekong whilst in Thakhek. Food was average (but we didn't go to the expensive places).

If you want to get well away from the current 'over-tourism'...
If you want to get well away from the current 'over-tourism' fad, Nakhon Phanom could be for you. Nestled by the banks of the Mekong, this provincial capital, remote from Bangkok (but only an hour or so's flight away) boasts some excellent old architecture and a unique cultural vibe as it has a long established Vietnamese community and was Ho Chi Minh's home for a year or so in the late 1920's. You can visit his house. There is also an aquarium just outside town where one can view Giant Mekong Catfish. Banh Mi, Pho Noodles and Vetnamese Egg Coffee and other Vietnamese foods are available. You will probably see few international tourists and the experience is truly local and authentic.

It's a great view of city and village life. You do the loop and that some what sums up your trip.
I did hit the Mountain you take a boat under and I took the "Back road" by mistake and ended up driving 58km though Laos villages
Seriously the best part of the trip.
I got to see a side of Laos 99% Of tourist never will so def. something worth seeing if you find that back road, its not hard to see if you do the loop backwards from what hotels advise you.
the caves are great, Dragon cave is a SERIOUS hike, the first few caves just east of the town are barely 5 minute visits and are used for praying not so. much tourism.
