friendly staff that are very helpful. nice room that felt very homely and also modern.
close by within walking distance is a mall that has a waterpark, gym and a spa. also nearby are more big name hypermarkets, food markets and Bazaars. all along what seems to be the main road through the city that connects everything.

“I really liked everything. The room with an ensuite bathroom was perfect, and the bed was firm but not too hard. While English is limited, and my Thai is non-existent, communicating wasn’t a problem thanks to Google Translate.
The hotel has a coffee shop and two Japanese restaurants attached. It’s just a 3-minute walk to a park where you can join the locals, squirrels, and pigeons in their morning exercises. Behind the park, there’s a night market every evening, offering a delicious selection of mainly Isaan food. A good massage place is just a 1-minute walk away, and there’s excellent, affordable food everywhere.
The Vietnamese restaurants tend to have a queue in the mornings, which is a great indication of the food quality. The hotel is located just outside the main center of Ubon, but it’s still close enough to explore the city on foot. Of course, Grab is also an option.”

Ubon has many interesting places, both in the city and close by. Would particularly recommend Sirindhorn Dam and the lake front resorts. Golf course there very beautiful. Also visit the Mekong river at Kemerat city.

Local people are nice and friendly and living according to the original Isan culture but it looks like you still are in the modern society, as services such as 7-11, cafe, markets and a big hospital are just a 5-minute ride away.
The surrounding nature with rice fields is the real picture of the north-east Isan of Thailand. It is fitting for people who want to escape the city life and find peace and calm.

Ubon is a nice city if you have plenty of time traveling...
Ubon is a nice city if you have plenty of time traveling around. Rent a motorbike or navigate by taxi in the city (cheap and they turn on the meter). Some nice places to visit for one or two days. For shopping it's a good city as well.

It's a large town and we barely scrathed the surface in 2.5 days there. Great temples, quirky converted shops downtown and quite a few interesting bars. Not many western expats and/or tourists around, but that just added to the genuine feel of the place.
We drove out to Pha Taem national park to view the 3000 year old cliff painting overlooking the Mekong River. Would definitely recommend doing that. We will be looking into some of the other national parks in the area, next time we're in town.
Oh and we were there in late October and were pleasantly surprised at how cool if was, especially afer dark. Very refreshing!
