What a wonderful gem just outside of Tokyo. We booked for a retreat from the city and our expectations were exceeded. My kids enjoyed skipping rocks in the beautiful river just a few steps from the property. We brought food for BBQ on the terrace which was family time well spent. We had so much fun we ran out of time to walk to the onsen so will have to return. The futon mats are VERY comfortable and after great sleep we woke up to sunshine on the river below and gorgeous fall leaves falling like snow. Host gave us perfect recommendations for a perfect day in Akigawa while he served a delicious breakfast and even taught my kids about the fruit trees in his garden before we headed out to see the local beauty.

The guesthouse was absolutely perfect for our trip! A lot of space, sleeping on a futon, view to the ocean, rental bikes available. But the best part was the host Atsushi, he was so kind and friendly! He even searched for us with his car when we were about to get stuck on the island because of the weather and almost missed the alternative boat. We can't be more grateful to have chosen Etcetera Guest House!!!

They even went as far as to notify us when the skies cleared up so that we had a chance to see the stars!

There are many places to eat nearby as well. The rooms are simple, clean, and have everything you need: bed, ac, a table etc. They are also really spacious. The staff (host) is also really friendly and accommodating, and one of them even speaks English. I was offered food multiple times, even though it is not included in the accommodation plan. The common (dining) area has a tv and manga, and is a nice place to chat with other guests and the host.
