Besides the comfortable room and the marvellous location, it was the kindness and hospitality of the owner that really sets this B&B apart from so many others. Sandy did everything that she could to make us feel welcome, with a kindness that we will easily remember. Warmly recommended to all travellers on their way around Newcastleton. Offering a tennis court and garden view, Black Burn Lodge B & B is located in Newcastleton, 39 km from Thirlwall Castle and 39 km from Cumbria County Council. Both free WiFi and parking on-site are available at the bed and breakfast free of charge. The accommodation provides a concierge service and bicycle parking for guests. We can highly recommend this place. We enjoyed our time on and around the beautiful property. The host and hostess were exceptionally helpful and informative. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor seating area near the river. If you are going to the Newcastleton area, this is where you should stay.

Both ladies were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and really make you feel Scottish Hospitality at its best. And we thought this was only a Highlands thing! How wrong we were... The room was very nice and super clean, and the bathroom as well. Pretty modern too. Also, we need to mention the outstanding breakfast, which my girlfriend rated as the best she's had in all of Scotland! It's hard to argue with that, to be honest, we definitely left with a big smile. It's a very small B&B, but if you can, book this one. I can't do anything but highly recommend Hillcrest, and if we're ever in the neighbourhood again, this is the first place we're looking at.
