I even got lucky and hitched a ride back to Nakatsugawa, with a perfect pitstop at Hillbilly Coffee (highly recommend). I stayed here after walking Nakasendo Trail from Tsumago. The people working there are both friendly, helpful and caring, it felt like they had a genuine intrest in their guests. The common areas are clean and cosy with a relaxed vibe, and when I was there the guests interacted with each other so you could get to know new people if you wanted to. The place was also in walking distance to both the bus station, old part of town and to a shopping mall with a proper supermarket. If you dont want to walk, there is a 7/11 right next door, or there is the possibility to buy food and coffee at the place. If I come back to Takayama I would choose to stay here again

Everything was so beautiful and comfortable! One thing you need to mind though - the village is very small, and there's nothing to do in the evening. Even finding open restaurants for dinner after 7pm is quite impossible

The hotel was in a great location. A short walk to the train/bus station and an easy walk into town. There were free laundry facilities (you only had to pay a small amount for the tumble dryer). As well as a public bath, there were also a number of private and small group facilities with views over the town. The hotel offered free ice creams and ice lollies whilst you waited for the private baths (although they were often free). Great breakfast - lots of choices. We felt really well looked after.
Hotel is well located - it was easy to reach fr train station and go to the city center. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great facilities: have washing machines and driers, nice onsen (both private and shared). Great breakfast: food selection for both Japanese and European style breakfasts. Fast check out with no issues. Highly recommended!
Staff spoke good English and was very charming. Baths were incredible with a nice view of the stars and little light pollution. Was very quiet and futons were comfortable. Room felt like a home not a sterile hotel room as it had lots of extras like comfy sofa and reading light.
Great location, very clean and the staff were amazing. The Japanese breakfast was excellent. The private spa was also nice after a long day of walking.
Had to pay for triple room as double wasn't available but the room was larger and more comfortable and had a toilet in the room. IT It felt private and quiet compared to some other ryokans we stayed. Dinner was one of the best we had. Great location in the middle of Magome.
Quiet, quaint, tranquil. Private onsen which has both indoor and outdoor bath available 👍 Beautiful traditional inn.
The room was exceptionally quiet and comfortable, with it's own onsen and a view of the woods. It felt very private. Breakfast and dinner were both good. Great location in the Japanese Alps, but it was definitely nice to have a car.
Very quiet, very nice room with great service and comfort. Was able to buy a drink package that was cheap and allowed self service in the roof top piano bar, this was very well worth the spend. Also had private onsens that could be used and didnt seem to have an outright ban on tattoos in the public bath.
I loved every minute of my stay at Cup of Tea. From the moment I arrived I received a very warm welcome, and enjoyed a great conversation with the owners. The bed was comfortable and spacious, and felt very private. The room was warm (which was very welcome in winter) and reasonably quiet. Great location close to the main attractions. Free tea/coffee was provided all day, and there was a well equipped kitchen if you wanted to cook. I would 100% stay here again.
