Please pay in cash or by card upon check-in. Guests under 12 years old are exempt from the lodging tax. Spacious! Which is hard to find for dormitories. And exceptionally clean. Really appreciated the quiet ambience and comfortable lounge, with complimentary tea and drip coffee. Lots of manga and books to browse through, along with a thorough sightseeing and food map. Also a very cute variety of Ghibli decorations and memorabilia in the lounge area. Location is close to Takayama Eki but in the snow it was a bit hard to go to and from with a wheel suitcase. Any other weather and it is completely walkable.

After reading the rave reviews, I booked this stay months in advance to make sure we would not miss the opportunity to meet Ken and Yuki and to stay at their guesthouse boasting modern facilities and balancing comfort and sleek design with traditional Japanese architecture and minimalistic and elegant interior design. At the end of a long day hiking, we were greeted with a big smile as if we'd come home to our family, a feeling that is both priceless and heatwarming. Ken's kind and welcoming nature is only rivalled by Yuki's and her sense of humor. Dinner was as delicious as our breakfast (all guests shamelessly went for seconds and some even thirds taking the lead for a brave lady I shall not name), enjoyed to the sound of Jazz standards in a communal spirit shared with the other guests, all of whom polite and considerate, as if handpicked by the hosts or perhaps instinctively mirroring their behavior. Guests do not have to wait to take a shower because there are three showers, one of which with an additional bathtub, for four rooms. Everything is impeccably clean and organized, making you feel restful instantly. So, do not hesitate to book this guesthouse as you make your way along the Old Nakasendo Road or just take a taxi to Magome and walk a few hundred meters to take photos for your Insta. Whether you fit the former or latter category, you will be treated as a family member by the kindest people we've met during our 3-week stay in Japan. I've already recommended this guesthouse to everyone I know who is planning to visiting Japan.

The ryokan is located in a quaint little onsen town, quite like how quiet it gets. The large variety of onsens available on site were excellent, room was very comfortable, view of the sea was great.
The hotel was in a great location. A short walk to the train/bus station and an easy walk into town. There were free laundry facilities (you only had to pay a small amount for the tumble dryer). As well as a public bath, there were also a number of private and small group facilities with views over the town. The hotel offered free ice creams and ice lollies whilst you waited for the private baths (although they were often free). Great breakfast - lots of choices. We felt really well looked after.
Food, staff, and location. The hotel is not far from the JR station, and it is convenient for people not driving. Staff is nice and attentive to detail. The food, especially the grilled fish, is delicious. This boutique hotel is valued for money given that two private onsen rooms are offered for all guests. I highly recommend this place for people who look for a quiet and relaxing onsen trip.
Staff were amazingly hospitable, the private onsen attached to our room was beautiful with an amazing ocean view. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wishes to see what a quiet Japanese town is like bby the seaside while still getting an amazing luxury experience.
Quiet, quaint, tranquil. Private onsen which has both indoor and outdoor bath available 👍 Beautiful traditional inn.
The room was exceptionally quiet and comfortable, with it's own onsen and a view of the woods. It felt very private. Breakfast and dinner were both good. Great location in the Japanese Alps, but it was definitely nice to have a car.
Very quiet, very nice room with great service and comfort. Was able to buy a drink package that was cheap and allowed self service in the roof top piano bar, this was very well worth the spend. Also had private onsens that could be used and didnt seem to have an outright ban on tattoos in the public bath.
Great location overlooking Takayama, but just a short walk from Sanmachi-suji. our room faced the road but was quiet and had a great view. the staff were wonderful and the breakfasts and dinner that we had were delicious. The private hot spring bath is well worth renting for just 1000¥. Some of the facilities are showing a bit of wear and tear, but the place has great charm.
quaint, private, charming & clean special rustic charm
