At the guest house, all units have bed linen and towels. Our stay at Temple Hotel was unforgettable, blending smooth check-in with authentic Japanese hospitality. The kind monk welcomed us with a tour of his family’s temple grounds, shared local dining tips (his izakaya recommendation was excellent), and generously offered complimentary sake, shochu, and beer, complete with a gas stove for warming drinks. He even guided us in setting up our futon beds. The temple opened at 6am, and we were invited to join his 7am prayer service and participate in rituals like sutra copying. Before we left, he gifted us a meaningful Wagen Aigo souvenir and sent us off with blessings. This stay was a genuine experience of Japanese culture—highly recommended.

Kabuki and Keita have created a welcoming and comfortable space for travelers. The room was simple and perfect with a comfy bed, small table with lamp and wash area. The breakfast was probably the best I’ve ever had — not just in Japan, but ever! So much care in every detail with homemade and fresh yogurt, granola, breads and juices. The generous breakfast kept me full until afternoon! They were helpful with suggestions for the area. The central location is great — can walk to most places in Shirahama and near many restaurants and cafes. They also run a small cafe. I loved the care and attention to details. If in Shirahama again I would only stay here!

The private on sens which they had 4 so plenty and very nice. Breakfast was also nice but it's the natural and nature setting that was very nice, central enough to have all the mod cons but on the other hand remote enough so you felt with nature and quiet. Staff was very nice and helpful too. There also is a good laundry opposite that washes and dries, was very handy to use after many days on the road. Night is also colourful with very lovely light display was a surprise.
You won't get much better than this for cheap and cheerful Kumano-kodo breaks. I even got a peanut butter and jelly sandwich kit. You have access to basic cooking facilities, and you sleep in a nice little cupboard. The staff are friendly and personable. It's clean and cheap for the area. If you don't need luxury there's no reason to stay anywhere else really.
Great staff, great location, great people. And 3 private onsen!
Great hostel! Located right along the Kumano Kodo, with great access to hiking. Stayed in the mixed dorm and was very impressed with the size and comfort of the beds. Lots of privacy for a hostel. Everything was clean. Kitchen well equipped. Private onsen access was great as well. Loved our stay here!
1. Good Sea view especially sunset (even though I am too busy outside and no chance to see it.) 2. 1st floor room size is big that including a living room with a sofa, refrigerator, TV, Drying rack and also a Queen size bed which I feel very comfortable. 3. They have 3 washing machines and 2 drying machines that is free to use That helped me a lot to wash my sweaty clothes. 4. Price is cheap. 5. Owner is a old couple but very nice to introduce their property as much as they can in Japanese. 6.Quiet
Location to the beach and to local Ginza street with some great eateries. Central to many points of interest. Area was very quiet ( mid April) which was exactly what we needed. Crystal blue water, white sand & comfortable accom with private onsen
The private onsen was really nice. Great location for kumano kodo trail and near bus stops for easy transport to different locations. Was situated on a beautiful river where you can walk down to the water.
Really great value for a whole apartment. The kitchen was reasonably equipped, beds and pillows were comfortable, heating made it nice and warm and it’s located in a quiet neighbourhood. A little way out of town but there’s cheap bicycle rental at the property that makes things a bit more accessible - hot tip, take the tunnel on your right when you’re heading into town, it’s not marked on google maps and there’s no signs in English, but that’s the tunnel for bikes and pedestrians. Good place to stay if you’re heading to Nachi falls!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This traditional Japanese house is very well looked after and is in a great location, and within walking distance of two onsen. Manabu is a great host, even delivering handmade rice balls each morning. We also ate at his restaurant which was very good. Highly recommended.
