We are a couple and went to Alappuzha/Alleppey and asked our host for a boattrip. Fortunately we found Jose Kalappura, he organized a convenient tailormade experience on two private traditional boats with modern facilities. We were lucky, because beforhand we didn't know the difference between cheaper tours on big boats vs. smaller boats with individual trip and different private experience. We startet with a tour on a small boat and went through smaller channels having local Breakfast, bigger boats can't pass there. Ad 12:00 we skipped on a different boat with private panoramic area on the first floor. We where alone, a really romantic trip. Having typical local fresh Lunch cooked on board by a chef, we stopped on the course for sightseeing. After a slow trip on a quite channel we could see a beautyful sunset and we had Dinner. We had a good Night in a full equipped clean room as we would expect in a city hotel. Our Captain found a good spot away from the busy areas where we enjoyed a beautyful sunrise. After a local Breakfast we left the boat with a big smile because of this outstanding experience. Thanks again to Jose and the Crew.

The experience far exceeded our expectations - it was simply incredible. We met our crew on arrival (captain, two chefs and service provider), all of who were lovely. The boat itself was only 5 days old and very luxurious, from the dining room, to the bathrooms and bedrooms. What truly makes this boat special though, and sets it apart from other house boats, is the unique top deck. The top deck had comfy furniture and areas to sit in the sun or in the shade. The design allows the airflow to keep you cool as the boat sailed. We opted for 3 days, 2 nights and were glad we did so. This allowed us to sail down quieter backwaters on the second day and to see local life as we went past (most house boats that do just one night take the same busy route). The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful, much of it Keralan cuisine. You won't regret booking with Why Not, we considered it excellent value and a truly special experience. We can wholeheartedly recommend.

The highlight of our Kerela Holiday. Excellent service from all concerned. Our 3 boat staff were exceptional. Captains Joshy and Thankachan were so friendly, helpful, and informative and the chef Reji was a brilliant cook and fed us so well ( the Thali meal was the best we had in India). The converted rice barge was beautiful and comfortable ( aircon too) and they took us to loads of lovely and quiet places. Doing 2 nights is better as you see more natural places and quiet backwaters. It was also really good value and they took us to loads of places ( and on a small boat tour, to a church and cycling) and loads of food ( including afternoon tea and snacks).

MAHARANI - Beautiful traditional style boat in a peaceful location with local life to view whilst cruising. The ‘Captain’ Manoj and his assistant Geethu together with our chef and Adie who waited on us all day were amazing. We got off the boat and purchased tiger prawns and calamari from the locals en route and our chef cooked these to perfection together with a total ‘banquet’ of delicious local dishes. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Pure decadence and excellent value. Lastly a huge thank you to Alush M (Front office manager) who organised us from instructions to finding the resort to offering us all the services the resort has to offer and ensuring our stay was perfect. Highly recommend this trip!

Surpassed all our expectations. The sights and the setting were magical, and the food and quality of the rooms and service were exceptional. All four members of our group loved every minute of our time on the boat and were sorry when the journey ended. Most appreciated: one young member of our family left a personal item on the boat, which we discovered missing the next day. When we called Joyjacob, his team not only searched and found the item but couriered it to another part of India where we had traveled. We were blown away by their kindness and generosity in making such an effort. Highly recommend this company and would feel very fortunate if we could return someday.

- the reservations team were responsive over WhatsApp and helped our driver get to them - The boat staff were attentive, welcoming and friendly - The views from the room were fantastic - Mingling with other Indian families as it was school holidays (we were the only foreigners in the boat) - meals were nice (lunch and dinner in particular)

    Tried to accommodate needs of western family - one not spicy dish especially for us at dinner. Good value - one of the cheapest house boats we found and was still good. Provided a little more a/c than was promised. Fairly clean. A good trip. Optional extras like short canoe trip to village available. Helped with onward plans - kayaking.
