PortugalFirst thing to remember when booking this place is that it is not a hotel, nor a holiday apartment. It is a small boat moored in the Marina. So, imagine you're going camping on a small floating caravan and you will get the idea. The fridge is a built-in ice-box. Sr. Serafim, the owner, comes regularly to re-stock it with ice. Likewise, he empties the chemical toilet and brings a plentiful supply of fresh bottled water, as the water used in the bathroom and galley (kitchen) is not drinkable. We and our grandchildren are all used to camping, so it was no problem for us. We stayed for a whole week and had a wonderful time. The highlight of the week was a trip around the estuary in "our" boat. We helped Sr. Serafim rig the boat and hoist the sails and we all took turns at the tiller. We could have done with a little more wind, but it was a great introduction to sailing for our grandchildren. They can't wait to go again.
On a practical note, you will have free access to the washing facilities at the Marina, where there are good, hot, clean showers, toilets, etc and a very good washing machine, should you need it.
The Marina is right in the middle of the town and everything in Viana do Castelo is within walking distance, which makes it a wonderful place to stay. Forget the hassle of driving in a strange town and hunting for parking places. Leave your car parked at the Marina and use your legs. You'll see far more.
