This was one of the best places we have ever stayed at. Every meal felt like a celebration, the hot springs were delightful, and the room was spotless. It was a small pension, only have 6 or 7 rooms so it was quite quiet during the stay. It locates at the quiet side of the lake so you really need a car. I had dinner at our first night there, the food quality was outstanding and not expensive at all giving this quality and service. The private onsen (hotspring) is exceptionally big and very comfortable. Room is very big comparing to regular hotel room, even big hotel room. Staff were very friendly and cheerful, I like them a lot. Within 1 hour drive, you can access a lot of beautiful places. I stayed there for 3 nights and not nearly enough to enjoy the surrounding areas.

The location, facilities, size of the rooms, and cleanliness are all great, but two things stood out the most: the courteousness of the staff and the excellent food. We had dinner and breakfast included in our booking and the food was amazing! It was definitely the best meals I've had since coming to Japan. All of the staff were very welcoming, and Kitahara-san was just exceptional. She was an amazing host and made us feel very comfortable throughout our 3-day stay. We have nothing but good memories from our trip. Oh, there was some fireworks in Lake Suwa on our second evening there. We could see it from the private bath from our room - it was such a special experience to watch beautiful fireworks while having a good hot spring bath after an amazing dinner.

Managed to book a room including breakfast for AUD103 per night, for 2 nights. As a solo traveller, this was really worth the money as the hotel had an amazing onsen - two outdoor ones, an indoor one and a sauna. The breakfast was delicious, with them changing the menu if you stay the second day as well. It's traditional Japanese breakfast, with fish, sashimi, pickles, egg and dessert. They even heat up the clam miso soup using the portable fire at your table when you arrive. The room has air conditioning and a mini fridge.
