This is an outstanding unique property if you like hot thermal spas. While I am not a fan of public bathing I found some hours when no one was there and I snuck in. What a luxury!!!! For next year I am getting suite with the private hot thermal spa so I don’t have to worry about the privacy. That having been said this place is six stars the service the food the Japanese ambiance and the entire experience is complete. I am an international traveler and I go to high end places only. This place was an amazing surprise in the middle of Unzen. I highly highly recommend it

We had in-room onsen, which was amazing. The public onsen was also good. Dinner in a private room for our party was delicious. The town is very convenient to the mountains and the rest of the Unzen part of the national park.

The location was perfect right next to Unzen Jigoku and waking up to the view outside our hotel room was peaceful and prayerful. The private onsen in the room was heavenly and we took advantage of it sometimes multiple times a day. The meals (breakfast and dinner courses) were delicious and gave us a wide range of Japanese dishes. It was also nice to be able to walk down in our Japanese PJ's to relaxingly eat and gaze out the window on Unzen Jigoku. The service was very attentive. The rooms were very spacious.

Spacious table-seating in the dining room, all tables having a view of the garden (really a park-like setting) and a menu that deserves an international rating at the highest levels, and that applies to both dinner (the landscape outside the glass wall is softly illuminated) and breakfast that offers Western coffee selections and the best of Japanese tea. We booked two nights and we were delightfully surprised to find that both the dinner and breakfast menus were varied. The wait staff and chefs paced the meal to our habits, and as English-speaking guests we never were challenged in communications.

At Unzen Fukudaya, guests can enjoy public indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths and relaxing massages. Free wired internet is provided in all rooms, while the lobby provides free Wi-Fi.

It’s right in center of the town, the host provided useful guide to the mountains. Free ticket to the onsen! Besides all that, we had a hot pot together with the host and his friend! They’re spot on with all the things that you’d want from a highly reputable hotel. The cleanness, great location with incredible scenery, amazing food and not to mention the ‘out-of-this-world’ service quality. For the price, I was very satisfied with the Ryokan experience at Azumaen. I certainly would recommend to others.

The room was much more than I expected and smelled nicely of wood and Hinoki. The location was perfect given close proximity to the Jigoku (steam vents and boiling mud) area. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

This is not a 3 star hotel, but definitely on a 5 star level. The staff was awesome, in particular Umeda! The food is fantastic: carefully selected and prepared ingredients, which enabled us to get to know a wide variaty of local specialities. For example, we never ate soft shell Gazami crab before! Very tasty. The room was breathtaking: the direct view onto the Ariake sea, the private onsen, the size and equipment of the room. Considering the awesome staff, location (view) and food, this hotel is a bargain and worth every yen. Our best stay in Japan.

The hotel was very clean with good parking. It was convenient to Omura Park, 7/11, supermarket, gasoline and Route 34. We were very pleased, and we want to come again next year!
