Quiet, friendly and home-like budget hotel. I booked for 2 nights, but I liked it and extended a few times for about a week. It's located in a green and leafy tourist precinct, next to Botanical Gardens, about a 20 minute drive from downtown. I especially liked having so many trees and beauty around, quiet (hotel is at end of small pedestrian alley), and the manager is kind and helpful advice on many different topics (she can speak OK English, rare in Hangzhou). Because the hotel is small, sometimes other guests stop and chat with you, which I liked. There's also really a lot of restaurants and cafes around, including a couple of cool and delicious ones. I stayed in one of the top level attic rooms, it's quite small and low roof, but quiet. The weekends in November got very busy in this area with tourists and traffic jams - but it's still nice to walk and bicycle around. The manager helped me to rent a bicycle through my phone, thank you! Cosy and great value!

We can’t put into words how well we were taken care of. From the moment we arrived until our departure, everything was perfectly arranged. She even gave me a small gift for Women’s Day. It truly warms my heart that someone with such passion and love wants to pamper us. She makes the entire breakfast herself—super fresh and absolutely delicious. The room was spotless and beautifully decorated. Unfortunately, we could only stay for one night, but we hope to return soon. It was simply fantastic!

We visited Hangzhou primarily for its West Lake, for which this was a good choice of location. As a scholar preparing talks for Shanghai, the small study with its ample table was indispensable. Not only was host Yan very responsive in issues regarding her apartment, she guided us throughout our stay even on non-related matters. Given the language barrier, she booked the taxi for our departure to the railway station. Even before we left Chicago, she was helping me with the Chinese translation of the abstract of my talk. So, we left Hangzhou knowing we now had a permanent friend there to whom we could return. You may want to get to know Yan not only as a host but as a creative writer and engaging conversationalist.
