Featuring garden and inner courtyard views, this bed and breakfast also comes with free WiFi. Kiyomizu-dera Temple is 12 km away and Mount Hiei is 14 km from the bed and breakfast. Quiet, cozy, traditional Japanese style, I was so surprised when I checked in. Even though the city doesn’t offer too much to see, this house is definitely a gem for me on this trip! (And the breakfast is SO AMAZING! )

A free shuttle runs to/from JR Ogoto-Onsen Station, which is a 5-minute ride away. The staff were absolutely amazing and the facility is beautiful. We had a great time enjoying the Onsen, delicious food, and seeing the nearby temples.

The hotel staff organised the shuttle bus for us even though it passed 6pm to ensure we made it to our dinner reservation. The food provided was 10/10, possibly one of the best meals we had in Japan ! And I forgot an item when I left the hotel, the staff just mailed it to my next hotel within the next day. Will definitely come back!

Situated in Otsu, 16 km from Enryaku-ji Temple, Yumotokan offers accommodation with a hot spring bath, a hot tub and spa facilities. The hotel was beautiful and I enjoyed the four different onsens in there. A few of the onsens (indoor) were a little on the older side, but the outdoor rock pool was spectacular. The facilities were really great. Dinner was really high quality food, although I felt a bit rushed. The breakfast buffet was spectacular.

The accommodation offers an air conditioning, a heating and a private bathroom. Blue Roof Hiei was a wonderful stay in a comfortable well maintained home. The host had excellent communication and provided many useful travel tips including parking in Kyoto. We loved the local sites including Hieizan temple and hiking trails. The house was well equipped with a nice little back yard (our kids loved to play there) and the kotatsu (table with heater underneath) was a great hangout space for watching TV or working. Overall it was a cozy and quiet refuge from the hustle of Kyoto. Our family will definitely be returning here on our next visit to Kansai!
