A real joy to experience the warmth and friendliness of this seafront taverna/restaurant in the hands of the same family since the 1950's. Everyone was very welcoming right from the start and it was a particular pleasure to chat with Tasos - the founder's grandson - who is very personable and has an excellent command of English. The room was excellent sitting directly above the harbour on the quayside and it was a sheer delight to enjoy our morning cups of tea on the balcony absorbing the view before going down for breakfast. We also had our evening meals in their taverna and found the food delicious and great value. Gerolimenas proved an excellent base for our exploration of the Deep Mani and we had some wonderful (and at times quite exciting!) drives around the backroads visiting the tower house villages, many of which sadly now deserted but nevertheless extremely atmospheric. Would not hesitate to stay at Akroyiali again or recommend to other travellers!

So tiny and still everything there, so well equipped. And so lovely. And did I mention tiny? :-D It´s all ruins around the tower, so very quiet at nights, Vathia is a really cool place to explore. During the day, there´s tourists passing along the path. I enjoyed sitting on the stairs/stones before the (tiny!) door and chatting to some people. The lovely owner also left us the key to her terrace around the corner for breakfast and such. And she let us stay a little longer for the nasty rain on our departure day. Thank you. The tavern in town was open and nice, with great views. Be prepared for a bit of an adventure walk to the place. It´s steep and partly plain rocks. My first thought was "are they nuts?!?, this can´t be the right way?!?". It is not really suitable for suitcases, bring a backpack, and altogether don´t bring much stuff (tiny, remember?) When we checked out with rain, we skipped the slippery "rock stairs" and walked the circle through the ruins the other way around, it´s a bit longer, but possible, you can´t really go wrong.
