We chose Kikuchi instead of Kumamoto, to get away from the city before our trip to Mt Aso. We got a lovely country house, but the main benefit was the lovely couple who hosted us. Super friendly and helpful. I enjoyed breakfast, my wife skipped hers, so the host packed it as a bento box for our lunch. Vegetables from the garden. A guided visit to the forest to see fireflies. Tastes of local food and drink. It was if we were lodging with my favourite aunt and uncle.

We like everything at this guest house. Rie, the owner is the best! She is friendly, providing best service, warm-welcomed, helpful and provide us tons of good information and recommendations. She also helps us with Universal Adapter and reserving Izakaya Restaurant. The room is comfy and the place is located in tiny town which is really lovely.

The owners are such a nice couple, very kind. We really enjoyed our days at hostel+cafe. The place is beautiful, very clean and confortable. The food was very tasty, Japanese traditional breakfast. We strongly recommend it.

The host is a super nice and attentive person, he made us feel like we were at home. The hostel is beautiful, it is made of details and with a lot of love love. They have two beautiful kittens!

This is just one train stop from Aso station, so provides easy access to Mt. Aso and the surrounding area. The kitchen is fully equipped (cutlery, pans, condiments, etc) and there is a small grocery store nearby to buy ingredients. Rooms are large, and there is a kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a japanese - style bathroom. The piano in the living room was a great and unexpected bonus. We were passing through and only stayed one night, but it would have been a great base to explore the Aso area and we would have loved to stay for longer.
