From the moment you arrive, it’s as if you step into an alternative reality - one that encompasses your entire spirit, soul, and mind. Run by an extremely sweet and caring older couple (who we now consider family), Crystal Bungalow is interesting, entertaining, and simply peaceful to stay at. Outside you are presented with lush and well cared for gardens (with lots of birds). Inside, everywhere you turn there is a new thing to discover (it’s a big like living in a beautiful and interesting museum). You are living on a small tea plantation in a colonial era home. The room was comfortable, bed very nice, water very hot. But perhaps the most meaningful thing is the connections we made to the owners. They care for you and they help you. We’ll be back!

Our stay at Nilowin in Haputhale was one of the highlights of our three week trip to Sri Lanka! The cooking class arranged by the host was incredible. The meal we cooked was the best rice and curry of our entire trip and we had so much fun learning more about Sri Lanka through the family and Namesh! The room is clean, spacious, and has a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains. We easily accessed the Pekoe hiking trail from the adjacent tea fields. Would stay again and again!

The location is quite remote but stunningly beautiful and peaceful. The gardens and grounds are well maintained and the view of the mountains change minute by minute due to the weather and clouds. The staff is ready to answer any question and provide anything you wish. Take a tour of the tea factory, it’s short but informative!

1. Location is good, 5-10 min walk from train station and restaurants 2. Owner is very accommodating and arranged tuk tuk at 4:45 to lipton’s seat for sunrise and packed breakfast with water for us. We walked down to the tea factory and took bus back to town. 3. Owner also recommended us how to take bus to our next destination to the coast! It was easy and saved us a lot of money. ( by car is 25000 rp and it costs 1500 rp for two ppl in the bus) though we don’t have suitcase but backpacks so ok for taking bus 4. The view is very nice though a lot of time is covered by clouds 5. Wifi and hot water work well. no fan/ac in the room but it was cold in March so i don’t think fan or ac needed 5. try green paradise restaurant which is good and cheap. The mint mist restaurant has a good view but more pricy
