We expected something special, and we had a special experience, seeing many different birds, reptiles, wild boars, and even an elephant one evening near the accommodation. If you expect luxury, don't go here, but if you love nature and the outdoors, you will enjoy it. This was our best accommodation!

It was really interesting experience, but at the booking.com is written it’s about 1,7 km to the center of city, but in reality we were 5 km from city. The owner picked us up by jeep at the evening but than he was trying to convinced us to go for safari with him next day, otherwise we have to walk back throw the forest where was possibility to meet wild elephant. We were scared but on the end at the morning he offered us to take us to the city. But it’s just more far away than it’s written.

The place itself is incredible, surrounded by nature with amazing views and a unique, non-touristic location. We especially want to thank Wasantha, who was not only our main contact but also helped us a lot — always with respect and great empathy. He really made our stay one of the best experiences we’ve had, preparing us a delicious breakfast and arranging trekking options. Since you are in nature, you might come across some ants, but that’s completely normal — once you notice them they quickly disappear, and they never bothered us. 😬😬 The access is along a very local road, so I recommend arranging in advance with a driver for both arrival and departure. The sweetest family ever. Very involved, interested and helpful. Nice people you can level with. The tent was of good quality with a nice bed and avaliable electricity. The bathroom is a little walk through the garden, full of herbs and fruits the family will love to tell you about. Just watch out for the chicken... ;)

The accommodation is located in authentic rural surroundings and from the host Supun and his family we learned a lot about local life. The visit to local buddhist temple was unforgettable experience. The safari was wonderful, we saw about 60 elephants and both Supun and the driver have a good eye for all kinds of animals and birds. Other nature trips and activities are also possible. Supun's mum is a great cook, all meals were lovely. Thank you! We would love to come back.

This is not a Swiss chalet so remove that thought immediately. This is a place for only those who are, essentially, predisposed to love of being outside, in the wilderness, exploring everything nature has to offer in all its glory, pain and everything in-between. If this sounds like you, read on, if not then I suggest you look for more what some may call 'luxurious' or 'comfortable' surroundings elsewhere and save yourself the trouble of walking into the jungle, attempting to roll suitcases along forest trails and across rivers. However, if this makes you think about dusting off your sleeping bag then you are in the right place. The two who have developed this jungle basecamp - think Dianne Fossey for closest example which springs to mind - are scientists. They study and discover what lives in the jungle wilderness and through their own efforts have made one tree house with flushing toilet and sink, and a surprisingly comfortable bed next to the endless torrent of the waterfall where you can have a shower, naturally if you clamber up towards it, or a bath if you feel more inclined to head downstream. There is another accommodation further up the hill and away from the waterfall which I did not visit. Treks can be organised into the jungle and up through primary and secondary forest, and to some very beautiful and remote vistas where it is clear not many people will visit for touristic purposes, if ever at all. Remember some tight fitting shoes, the jungle is merciless on feet given half the chance. The locals are obviously well weathered for such exertion, so it may not be best to follow their lead in footwear though the choice is, obviously, yours. What greets you after your efforts does feel like time has forgotten it. It is jungle. It is dense. It is Sri Lankan rainforest. Local people don't speak English so expect a guide through the forest, not a guided tour of botany and wildlife.
