Most wonderful place I have visited, in the middle of nowhere but still in the middle of a paradise. Lovely and flexible owners and very warm welcoming.

Macaw lodge is such a magical place. Beautiful setting, horiculturally interesting, and part of an important wildlife corridor. We saw so many different birds and animals. The highlight was our birding tour with Hugo, who is very knowledgeable about the area. We also loved sitting in the main lodge watching birds gather around the small pond. The food was fabulous, much of it locally sourced. We especially loved the fresh squeezed juice at every meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

It's away from Jaco, so you can have a break from the flash tourist stuff, but 15 minutes drive to get back there if you like. Head north from Maritza to get quieter beaches, or Carara national park.

The place was beautiful and quiet, set back in an amazing restored patch of forest. We were there for wildlife, and seeing macaws from inside the airconditioned room was fantastic during a heat wave. Very close to Carara National Park, and some decent restaurants nearby. Not too far from cities if you want more facilities, and the bus stops quite close-by. Staff were great. Only improvement would be a restaurant open for dinner so we didn't have to leave.

We had an incredible experience! The views from the property are absolutely breathtaking – waking up to the lush greenery and scenic landscapes was a highlight. The host was extremely friendly and welcoming, making sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. What made it even more special was the abundance of wildlife around. We spotted so many fascinating animals right on the property – a true paradise for nature lovers! Highly recommend staying here for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat surrounded by natural beauty.

The location is great if you want to visit Carara National Park. The food is fabulous, especially the wood fired pizza. The room was also very spacious, clean and the bathroom is outside which makes the whole experience very wild. You can be sure that you will see scarlet macaws there, flying around and coming to feed near the restaurant (usually between 4-5 pm). It’s a bird paradise. The pool was also great, clean and you can see the sunset while soaking in the water.
