As a solo traveller this was a great place to get away and relax and get some alone time. Hosts were incredibly welcoming throughout my stay and made me feel very much at home. The treehouse was comfy and the balcony was great for watching the wildlife that roam around, the toilet also had a great view. The food was genuinely outstanding, also grown at the house, and they were not shy with the portions. A great little stay

My recent stay at Charming Dark Lodge in River was nothing short of exceptional, marking it as the best homestay experience I have ever encountered. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that exceeded all expectations. From delicious lunches and dinners to delightful surprises and the most mouth-watering fish barbecue - probably the best meal I have had in the two months I have been in Sri Lanka. Beyond the culinary delights, our room was a sanctuary of comfort and style. Immaculately clean, equipped with a kitchen containing everything one could possibly need, and beautifully built and decorated. Originally intending to stay for four nights, we found ourselves captivated by the charm of Charming Dark Lodge, extending our stay to twelve nights. Departing was bittersweet, as we had grown attached to the unparalleled hospitality and the tranquil ambiance of our temporary home. A particularly memorable moment was celebrating my birthday during our stay. Our host went above and beyond to ensure it was an unforgettable occasion, adding a personal touch that truly made me feel special. Wonderful place close to the beach, but still quiet and secluded. The hosts are super nice and helpful. Several bungalows are hidden in green, vast area so you feel isolated from other guests. The pool is great :). Breakfasts are diversified, so every day you can try different meal. Walking distance, 3 min., to Midigama center. We will most ceirtainly come back!

Great property with beach front access and great facilities such as the pool. Friendly and professional staff who was always available for our needs and unbiased recommendation's of local activities and restaurants. Abheetha the manager and the team went beyond to make sure all our needs were met, the chef's teams food was just delicious, especially the curated Sri Lankan meals created for us whilst there. Highly recommend to eat some meals at the property as they were the best we had during our trip in Lanka. Great property and look forwarding to coming back soon.

First and foremost the location and the friendly owner Siras. The staff Sampath was also friendly and resourceful. The bedroom was comfortable. The beach is right in the backyard. There are many nice restaurants and lively events around the beach. Coconut hill, secret beach and parrot rock are nearby, within 1 to 2 kilometers.

Good wifi, massive lawn, and my personal favourite- monster lizard. It lives in the lawn. You can walk to the beach and all the eateries. Manu is very resourceful and can get you most of the things. Just ask him!

The perfect place to spend your vacation! If you want peace and quiet, this is the place to go. You are given an entire bungalow with a separate kitchen and lounge area. You will be the only guest at Channe's and all the host's attention will be on you. Lovely non repetitive breakfasts that will be cooked for you by your host, we were delighted! Channe, very hospitable, will always offer tea or any other help. You can also hire a bike from him for a good price and get a shuttle to the airport. The bungalow was very clean and bug free. Great bed with a good mattress. Will greatly miss our conversations at breakfast) Will definitely come back here again!!!!
