I could honestly write a 10-page article in praise of Shanuo. Firstly, yes. It’s every bit as beautiful as the pictures would have you believe. (With that said, there’s no way to truly capture the beauty of this place through a camera lens. You just have to go there to see that for yourself). Surrounded by coconut trees and brightly coloured tropical flowers, the bungalows overlook the Indian Ocean - a morning dip is a must! My room was clean and comfortable and I was provided with everything I might need during my stay. Although Shanuo doesn’t have its own restaurant, I can honestly say this has no impact on your stay at all. The breakfasts are generous and Shanuo provides drinks and snacks (at a small fee) if you’re feeling peckish. There are several neighbouring properties along the beach with restaurants. I promise you won’t go hungry! Secondly, the staff are incredibly accommodating and helpful, and you’re guaranteed to be met with a friendly smile and an enthusiastic “Jambo” 100% of the time. If you need anything, you just need to look up and someone is there to assist. A big thank you to everyone at Shanuo, but especially to Na who brought my breakfast every morning and who I had lovely chats with, to Daniel who cut copious amounts of fresh aloe vera to tend my sun burn, and of course to the manager, Gillian, who is energetic, friendly and builds meaningful connections with her guests which she uses to tailor her travel tips especially to your needs. This team creates an atmosphere that truly makes you feel as though you’re ‘coming home’. There’s so much more that I could say, but anyone reading this will begin to think I’m exaggerating. I’m really not. Do yourself a favour and just book! I’ll certainly be coming back here on my next Zanzibar adventure.

The breakfast was super delicious and fresh, the staff made you feel like home and the views were absolutely stunning. The place itself was peaceful and we loved that it wasn't crowded with tourists. Cannot recommend enough!

The first thing that hits you is a stunning garden, with lovely places to chill. Our room was located on the first floor of a bungalow with a terrace, felt like on a tree in jungle :-) room was small but all you need is a bed, honestly, the bathroom with a shower was outside, which was amazing! :-) lots of friendly people, even guests Get the vibe immediately. Kitchen was delicious! We honestly enjoyed every single dinner. And on the top of all, barmans were totally cool. Always smiling with lots of positive energy. My sister and brother, asante sana ❤️

The place was very peaceful, breakfast was amazing and the staff was very nice. Highly recommend it.

Perfect place to explore the parc. 200m away. Very reaxing place. Friendly helpful staff. Very good food. Good variation freshly prepared. You can sit outside and watch monkeys coming by. Got even an open fire for enjoying the evening outside. Simple rooms but all there. Tour was organised for me with a knowledgable guide. I would like to mention that there is a weavery close by with old manual machines. Very good pricing for the handmade coton items. That was for me the Souvenir to take away. Will always remember the monkeys around the open house.

I strongly recommend staying in Mkeka. Our stay was wonderful. The hotel is very nice, and it's just a short walk from the beach. The swimming pool, that is open 24h, is a big plus. The hotel staff is really great and friendly. They will recommend you the best places to see, help you to organise your trips, take you to the best parties in the area, and make you feel like at home :) Great for families, couples and solo travellers :)
