Mori no Fairy is a quaint, cosy wooden cottage that faces the sea. Situated on the south-eastern side of Yakushima island, a stay in this property added a sense of homeliness to an already-magical experience that was Yakushima. I stayed alone, but the size of the cottage would have comfortably fit four people. There were two AC units that kept me warm and comfortable, and a simple yet plush couch to rest your weary legs after hiking through the mystical forests of the island. The bathroom facilities were kept immaculately clean throughout my stay, with warm and cool water available. Towels were changed daily: if you choose to sleep in, they'll leave clean towels outside your room for you. There's a small kitchenette for light cooking: good enough for preparing a simple breakfast or a quick meal to take along with you during your hikes. The highlight of this property is definitely the outdoor deck. There's a small table and some chairs where you can sit and enjoy alfresco-style dining, and two recliners for nightly star-gazing sessions. There's even a small observation deck (accessed via a ladder with about 9 steps) that you can climb up onto for a better view. Last but definitely not least: a goemonburo, which I learned is a traditional Japanese iron bath. Imagine that: being able to soak in your own personal steaming outdoor bath while admiring the sea view that lies before you, and all this after a picturesque but grueling hike when all your muscles are sore. There are some experiences you know will stay with you for life, and this is one of them for me. The hospitality of the property's staff was gracious and welcoming. Upon arrival, my cottage was clearly marked out for me with proper instructions on what to do. They were was very prompt in their replies to my enquiries before I arrived, and they spoke very good English.

This lodge provides free private parking, room service and free WiFi. We stayed for 2 nights at Hokkoma cottage and loved our stay. The property itself was wonderful, had everything we needed and felt like home. Our trip was focused on taking advantage of Aso's beautiful nature and the cottage's location allowed us to do this. It was also great to know that there was a large bath to use after the hike to soak our tired legs!

You have your own private Onsen, both inside and outside which was fantastic. Hence we didn’t manage to rent a car we had to go there with bus and then walk 3 km from closest bus stop. When the staff found out they immediately offered to drive us the next morning and stay another hour in the house to correspond with our bus to Beppu. Very kind and considerate young man. Thank you, we appreciate it.

Providing a garden, 星空に包まれる 森の隠れ家　Amrita Lodge ~stay & retreat~ is situated in the Kirishima-jingu Onsen district of Kirishima, 12 km from Ebino Plateau. This property offers access to a terrace, free private parking and free WiFi. The property is non-smoking and is located 4.6 km from Kirishima Jingu Shrine. The lodge was incredibly well furnished with extremely good style, Middle East and Japanese style. A complete kitchen with all equipment and items was available. The bath was not with hot spring water but you can use as a real Onsen just with tap water, extremely positive. Yui the owner is a fantastic host and therapist, she practice us a wonderful professional massage in the lodge. TV with Netflix and Prime video was available for a relaxing night like being at home after 10 days of tour. It was a totally different experience in Japan, instead of the usual micro hotel room having a full lodge just for us. I recommend this location if you are in the area. A lot of trails are available in the area, Yui can help you in selecting the most appropriate place to visit.. Absolutely recommendable!!!

The house, the bbq and the surrounding. One of the top highlights of our trip.

There is a private bathroom with bidet in some units, along with free toiletries, a hairdryer and slippers. Place was exceptionally clean. Ideally located, 3 minute walk to bus station. Owner was very helpful and ordered breakfast and lunch packs for our Cedar trail hike to Jomon. The food packs were delivered to our door steps by 4:30 am to be ready for our all day hike.

The accommodation has a hot tub. The food was sublime! Seriously. Everything tasted amazing. The cabins themselves are very high quality. They did not cut corners. Everything you need is in the kitchen and the washing machine worked great too. The private bath with large window was a centerpiece and a soak in the tub was transformative!!
