If you want to go hiking from a very basic town then it’s...
If you want to go hiking from a very basic town then it’s great. I guess. But if you want anything else out of the town forget it. Zero. 58 km of dirt road each direction is not remotely worth the view. There are amazing views all over Argentina, if the town even had one interesting aspect fine but it doesn’t. Most people we saw there were sitting waiting for the next bus out. Nothing to do if you don’t hike. Sorry IRUYA, the rest of Argentina is amazing, you’re very ordinary by comparison.

It had great views over Iruya, situated right at the top. This did mean walking up and down pretty hilly terrain to the restaurants nearere to the centre if you did not drive.
Staff did try to be helpful despite not speaking English.

The views were wonderful, whether in room or verandah or dining area. Room very comfortable. Meals lovely. Staff friendly. Carparking available. Iruya is a pristine environment and I hope it stays that way.

Simple hotel but everything fine - comfortable bed, decent shower. Great roof terrace with views of the town and surrounding mountains.
