We enjoyed the breakfast recommendations that the host had given. It was absolutely delicious. We decided to have dinner at the hotel at the last minute, the chef manage to accommodate our request and the wagyu for the night was divine. We could not stop raving about it, especially the Asian Fusion shallot infused sauce. Yums! The host were really thoughtful. They catered for the needs of our little one. Our little one had a great experience at the property!

It was a bigger place than we had expected with extra amenities. It was very clean and furniture was comfortable. The owner was very communicative and friendly. They had even labelled the light switches and had provided board games ready to go!

A perfectly formed tiny home with everything we needed including a fridge and oven. Beautifully presented. The location was great for wildlife spotting. We could see kangaroos and birds from the deck and from inside the cabin. If you want a peaceful back to nature retreat for a night or two this is perfect.

This apartment had everything needed for a few nights' stay. The pictures don't really do it justice. There's more outside space, with BBQ, table and chairs, than the pictures show. It's next to the main road, so there's some traffic noise during busy times, but virtually nothing at night during our visit. Jane was very helpful and responded quickly to queries. Easy to access from Penneshaw even after dark. Good access to the eastern end of the island. Plenty of birdlife around too.

There’s literally nothing at American River except the...

There’s literally nothing at American River except the lovely oyster farm shop that has terrific seafood. If you go to Kangaroo Island, which is beautiful, stay at Kingscote. The Ozone Hotel has good food and rooms as a start.

Nice quiet area, pretty and not too far from Kingscote where there are some pubs, shops and fishing off the Jetty. If you're looking for a peaceful area to stay them American River is the place for you.

American river is quiet and has interesting history and...

American river is quiet and has interesting history and little walks. With driving after 6pm not recommended it is rather good that the restaurant is excellent. (some hire car companies offer NO INSURANCE COVERAGE if vehicles are driven after 6pm - because of likelihood of wildlife strike).

It's a peaceful place and cool to see pelicans, black swans and the rare glossy black cockatoos. However, there isn't really a swimming beach so it is maybe more for fishing trips than beach-goers. Staying in the hotel means you are limited to eating out and there are few options (the hotel is excellent but expensive) - 2 nights here was great but we were happy to move on where we had more options of activities and food for the rest of our trip.

Beautiful location overlooking American River and lovely hosts. Breakfast was included, just wish we had more time to sit and enjoy the fantastic location. There is so much to do on Kangaroo Island we will need to come back to relax and enjoy the hospitality. Just be mindful that dinner options are limited so plan ahead. The venue is going to add a restaurant in the future which will make the stay even better.

Lovely, peaceful location in American River. Cabin 5 was bright and comfortable and the bush in front was alive with tiny colourful birds during the day. At night the wallabies hopped outside, whilst the three resident koalas slept in the tree. The black glossy cockatoos put in a brilliant overhead display and the Black Glossy restaurant down the road put an equally brilliant evening meal.

Property was relatively new build. Bedrooms were on the small side but comfortable. Open plan living area worked OK for our family of 4. All necessary facilities were included. Though it's located around 400m from the beach/dock. It's quite a hike up the hill back to the property. We did find some beautifully scenic walks in and around American River which we enjoyed..
