Our trip to Switzerland started on a bad note: we lost our baggage. From there, some representatives working for the SBB were not very friendly, actually not friendly at all. So, frustrated, we walked into the hotel. Elia greeted us and made us so welcome, that I forgot all our troubles. His smile and service totally surprised me. He did note that the country being reliant on tourism would benefit from a better customer service than we had received, rather than the one we got from SBB. The rooms were so clean and welcoming, I had the best night's sleep there. Breakfast exceeded our expectations. With so much variety to choose from when it came to breads (I did try them all), and the cheeses (also tried them all :)) and other things to sample, I was glad I came down for it. I thought I lucked out with only Elias being so nice, but the next day's person working at the reception (did not write his name) was also super nice and helpful. He held out luggage for us to walk around the town. Excellent service, excellent hotel and staff. Really enjoyed out stay.

The room was incredibly comfortable and spotless. The modern decor and well-maintained facilities gave the place a fresh, inviting feel. One of the highlights was the stunning view from the room. The hotel’s location is ideal for travelers with a car. It’s easy to reach and offers convenient parking. The city center is a 10-minute bus ride away. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating.

Very pleasant town, excellent bus and train services.

Very pleasant town, excellent bus and train services. Very novel that one of the train lines actually runs through the town, next to the cars! Has both narrow and standard gauge railways too. Bus services were frequent and reliable. There are some great restaurants, good bakeries and some nice shops. We used it as a base to travel to other places, and the good train links made that very easy. It's only an hour or so outside of Zurich but a little cheaper for accommodation so that is also a bonus.

I only had two short, separate overnighters so tired on arrival. I would have liked more time to explore the old town in daylight and also visit Arosa by train. The cathedral is beautiful and a must see. My sense of direction is poor but google maps made it easy to orientate myself.

A nice place with a lot to see.

A nice place with a lot to see. The old city is very clean and very lively, shops, people, little places, squares, little niches to rest, a nice urban settlement. There is also a very nice roman ruins place well protected by an incredible structure designed by the famous architect Peter Zumthor, who is local and had been doing a lot of projects in the area for the last 40 years, or so. It is worth visiting Chur for many reasons then!

Great cable car trip up the mountain with amazing views and good walking. Several good cafes/restaurants to enjoy. The old town is simply amazing and walking round both day and night was special. Excellent choice of eateries in the town. Pretty amazing to see children properly equipped and picking up litter in the town.

Easily enough to fill a couple of days prior to catching the train to Italy. Loved the open air pool, the cable car and the walk back to the city from the top of the mountain. Chur is worth a visit, but it struggles with the relationship between the old and new parts of the town.

It’s picturesque and nice to walk around.

It’s picturesque and nice to walk around. The highlight was the Bündner Kunstmuseum which was fantastic. Eating options a bit limited, and opening times of restaurants / shops seemed a bit hit and miss. Chur is very expensive.

The Freieck Hotel is in the historic area of Chur, close to shops, restaurants, cathedral and museums. It was a 10 minute walk through pedestrianised streets from the railway station. The reception staff were very helpful and gave recommendations for traditional Swiss restaurants close-by. Our room was very large with couch and large TV. A good size ensuite.

The hotel was very close to the train station and to all the attractions of Chur, making visits to museums, galleries and scenic spots very easy. The hotel staff were also incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay :)
