An unforgettable experience - 100% worth the money and one of those rare cases where the actual thing is as good as the pictures. The "tent" is more like a hotel room, with a TV, air con, and the comfiest bed I think I've ever slept in. You get to wake up to a view of the rainforest and your own hot tub, the outdoor shower is amazing, and they bring you a la carte breakfast every morning! We also loved little touches like the mini bar being included, and the present you get when you leave. 10/10 service, this was the highlight of our honeymoon.

The most amazing hotel! Loved everything about it - the fantastic location (those views from the restaurant balcony!), the lovely helpful staff, delicious meals at the restaurant and brewery, beautiful clean rooms, watching humming birds from the hot-tub. A trip to Monteverde is one of the big ticks on the list for visitors to Costa Rica. Getting there is quite hard going on dreadful roads. Not ideal for anyone with any back or joint problems. It is a wet area so expect downpours and to feel damp at all times even when it is dry outside. The main reason to visit is to see the cloud forests and for zip lining, otherwise there isn’t much else to do in the area. Other attractions such as Ranali frog pond, the butterfly garden are poor and not worth the time or money. I stayed for 3 days and it was too long. My favourite thing overall was seeing the hummingbirds at Monteverde cloud forest - not in the forest itself, but in a cafe area just before the entrance to the cloud forest!

If you like cooler temperatures, rainy & windy mountains in...

If you like cooler temperatures, rainy & windy mountains in remote Costa Rica then this is for you. Its a unique experience to be that high up above sea level and theres plenty to do outside between coffee tours, ziplines & hikes. But in terms of the town itself, theres not a lot going on and its expensive but I guess thats what you pay for tranquility & remoteness. And if you're driving up there you better have a 4x4 or AWD vehicle because the majority of the roads up here are unpaved & windy AF. Spots to check out that made our trip: Don Juan Coffee Farm, the Butterfly Sanctuary, El Tigre Waterfalls, Kinkajou Night walk, 100% Aventura Ziplines for the longest Zipline in Latin America & lastly tree climbing at Finca Modelo. If you want to try authentic Costa Rican food (because hello why not!) skip out on the expensive restaurants and go to Pizzeria 3R y el Sazón de Mary - best part is that they're open late. Food was bomb! Overall, I wouldn't spend more than 2.5 days up here.

4-wheel drive recommended, but not essential. My six-year old particularly enjoyed the animal experiences: sloths, frogs, snakes and butterflies at the Selvatura Adventure Park (which was expensive but worth it - very knowledgeable guides) and also the Bat Jungle. My favourite experience was walking the trails in the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve - very well marked and options for different levels of ability.

Loved the adventure parks (selvatura sloth rescue is a must!) and area restaurants Bon appetit and taco taco. Chocolate and coffee tour also worthwhile. Night tours more insect and reptile focused than in other areas. Roads in the area are very narrow and twisty, hard for motion sickness travellers.

Great place for hikers. Unfortunately most places you have to pay to enter and it's not cheap. But there are a few free places you can walk if you do your research. There is loads of stuff to do for everyone. Families and adventure junkies.

If you love the outdoors, go to Monteverde. We did a coffee/sugarcane/chocolate tour, a wildlife refuge tour, night time nature walk, zip lining, and a sloth experience. There were lots of different restaurants and we loved all of the ones we visited.

Located 5 minutes drive from the entrance to Monteverde Cloud Forest and 10 minutes to Santa Elena. Lovely green and lush surroundings. If you wish to stay in the nature, this is the right property to choose. We even saw toucans, hummingbirds, monkeys and brocket deer. Friendly staff. Overall it was a pleasant short stay!
