Amazing experience! We were greeted at the entrance upon arrival which really set the tone for a warm and welcoming environment. The bungalow itself was quite spacious and the second floor was beautiful and had amazing windows. The bathroom is located "outside" but attached to the main bungalow and it was super clean and private. There was a kitchen area right outside the bungalow. We didn't use it, but it had stovetops, a sink, and a mini-fridge, as well as cabinets for storage. We also had a semi-private patio with chairs to lounge on, which was lovely. Overall, everything was very clean. The property itself provides everything you might need (eg. laundry drying rack, kitchen area, pool towels) and the employees really go above and beyond to cater to guests. The location is great if you have a car, it's just a couple minutes from Potrero central and a short drive to larger beaches.

Hands down one of the best places we stayed at in Costa Rica! This place is a true oasis off the beaten path. It’s got a chill vibe in a beautiful inviting setting and is really magical at night with the lighting …simply beautifully designed!! You’re surrounded by a tropical environment with birds, squirrels, cashew trees and falling mangos that are a delicious bonus!! The owners are laid back, very welcoming and friendly - willing to help with anything you need. You feel like you’re staying with friends! The restaurant onsite is great and makes it easy to just relax and enjoy the pool area with cocktails and food. Almost makes you want to skip sight seeing in the area! However, the location does make it easy to go out - it’s walking distance to the beach and many bars & restaurants if you want to step out of the beautiful property. If you’re lucky you’ll also get the opportunity to spot some howler monkeys across the road - the made a visit on our last day which was really cool!

The cabins were great. So cleaned and looked after. The host was amazing, very friendly, and helped us with recommendations of places to check around the area. The accommodation is not far from Playa Potrero (stunning beach and area). We were near all the restaurants but the hotel was hidden in nature. We loved absolutely everything about this place. They've done a wonderful job with this property! This was our 8th accommodation on this trip to Costa Rica, and it had the best of all worlds. Quiet enough to feel remote, but connected to groceries, gas, and services in town. Fantastic A/C in the common space and both bedrooms. A thorough cleaning job, enough towels for a family of 4 (including pool towels), and a very well-equipped kitchen. The owners were so kind to accommodate early check-in so that our young daughters could get settled; they even brought them a high chair and kids' chairs, which they adored! The view from the pool is gorgeous and we appreciated the little outdoor gym, too. We watched the cleaning team wipe down outdoor railings and dust off loungers. They're clearly taking pride in keeping this place up. We would definitely stay again!

Potrero happens to be very centric: there are four beaches...

Potrero happens to be very centric: there are four beaches in a row northwards and dozens to the south, in few kilometers. That makes the town a good operating base. There are a lot of services and is far better organized than Santa Teresa or other beach towns. My preferred beach was Prieta. Also, there are supermarkets around, so you can buy the ingredients and cook by yourself, or visit restaurants. We visited different restaurants and concurred that the ceviche with maracuya sauce was the better (some restaurant in Las Catalinas $$$). Oceana serves good food ($$$$$, size is small, at the Flamingo Marina). Me Gusta (Italian cuisine $$$) had good pizza. El Reparito ($$$, mexican oriented - I loved the place) was tasteful, El Gallo Ronco ($$$) was good, as well. I found MarCosta seafood market well provided they gave nice attention. They also rent a floating deck in the Potrero bay or give boat tours.

I was in Potrero for 3 nights alone on business.

I was in Potrero for 3 nights alone on business. The location is quite and off the tourist map. There are a few local restaurants and bars, but not a lot going on. Its a great place to get away and relax, but pretty remote from all of the major destinations. There are other even more remote beaches just north of here that are worth visiting, so a few days here can be worth it.

It was a beautiful beach. Not near as busy and crowded as Coco Beach or Tamarindo Beach. We were able to access the beach with a short walk from our Hotel. The sunsets from this beach are incredible.

Potrero is a charming and walkable beach town with plenty of dining options. While the beach itself was decent, it wasn’t our favorite—the sand is darker and the water less clear. We preferred Playa Conchal for snorkeling and Playa Danta or Dantita for swimming. That said, we appreciated Potrero’s more local feel, with a strong Tico presence, unlike the more tourist-heavy vibe of Playa Flamingo and Las Catalinas. Potrero’s central location makes it a great base for exploring nearby beaches. We especially recommend Hemingway’s on the beach—it’s family-friendly with fun activities like bean bag toss and a slackline. Our waiter, Joseph, was outstanding—knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Don’t miss the beautiful sunset views from there!

We enjoyed the various towns and beaches located in the Potrero area. The restaurant selection was very good. Everyone was kind and helpful. It was nice to encounter local people and tourists enjoying the area. The area felt safe. Driving in the area requires the drivers full attention, skill and patience. We learned that it is a must to have transportation to fully enjoy h3 many beautiful opportunities in Potrero.

The BE Hotel is a bit out of the way but close to the center...

The BE Hotel is a bit out of the way but close to the center of Potrero. This town is lively, as there are stores and places to eat. There is also a school and a large sports field. You can see the working atmosphere here - there is construction work going on in many places. A little farther from the center on side streets you can admire beautiful villas, which are adjacent to modest houses. A few hundred meters behind the hotel you can meet grazing horses and cattle. Flowering shrubs and trees decorate it all. Our attention was drawn to the large number of free-roaming dogs of very gentle disposition. We did not once encounter aggression between them as well as towards us - they would come up and greet us in a friendly manner. From the BE hotel it is also a few hundred meters to Playa Penca. Here there is yellow sand and off-season perfect tranquility. During these two weeks, the number of people using this 750-meter beach varied from 6 (!!) to 60 people depending on the day.

I had the absolute best time staying at Casa Papito. The hosts, Daniel and Charlotte, were friendly, accommodating and welcoming my whole stay with them. Such lovely people. Great communication. They have a beautiful home, warm pool and it's all a short walk from the beach and local amenities and restaurants. My room was spacious and clean, as was kitchen space. I would recommend, especially for solo travellers like myself - would also suit couples and families.

Playa Penca was close by and is a very nice, not so busy beach. Playa Potrero is also not far to walk to. There were a couple grocery stores and restaurants close by. The pool is only several steps from the villa's door, but there is still plenty of privacy. Many places at and around the villa to sit and relax in the shade. The villa was comfortable, quiet and provided everything that we needed.

Our hotel room was nice an spacious with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The size of the facility was perfect. It offered everything we expected, with a nice garden, a pool and direct beach access as well as beautiful sun sets. The hotel restaurant offered delicious food at reasonable prices.
