Loved everything about our stay in the tipi tent! A little luxury while still feeling immersed in nature. The pool is just beautiful, bed comfy, good coffee, and great price! The staff were friendly and available to help with any questions. My fav spot in CR so far!

It was lovely. We had the 3 bedroom villa. The restaurant is very good - delicious food and good prices. The location is perfect to explore the nearby beaches. The service was excellent.

Separate cottages of the hotel provide intimacy. Well thought out and maintained greenery: palm trees, cacti, banana trees, guanaste, flowering shrubs. In the middle is a swimming pool. Without leaving the hotel, we encountered the fauna of Costa Rica: sloths, iguanas, a herd of howlers and other monkeys, birds and colorful butterflies. Our suite was furnished very functionally. The entire facility was very neat and clean. We often enjoyed a very tasty pizza prepared on site. The hotel has a very good location. Portero Beach is right next door, and about 500 meters from the hotel is Penca Beach with yellow sand, almost empty at this time of year. There are two well-stocked stores and a fruit bazaar within 150 meters of the hotel, as well as several places to eat and a church nearby. The hotel staff was very knowledgeable, courteous and always available. They helped us resolve problems with the airline losing our luggage and with our car rental.

Very nice villas, very clean, relaxing stay, breakfast available on order, there is also a bar by the pool, recommend to everyone, the owner are very friendly and welcoming, we enjoy every minute there. Our stay at Casa Papito exceeded our expectations. We found a clean, spacious, quiet, and comfortable room with everything we needed. The kitchen is very well-equipped too. Located at walking distance from Potrero beach, and just minutes from other nearby beaches (the sunset at Penca was stunning). The pool is tempered with easy access and just the right size and depth to relax and have a good time with our son, and to top it up, our hosts; Daniel and Charlotte, made us feel right at home with their warm touch. We also booked a Gyrocopter tour (Daniel is the pilot) overseeing several beaches, recommended if you are looking to experience some adventure as well. We will be coming back as frequently as possible.

Potrero happens to be very centric: there are four beaches...

Potrero happens to be very centric: there are four beaches in a row northwards and dozens to the south, in few kilometers. That makes the town a good operating base. There are a lot of services and is far better organized than Santa Teresa or other beach towns. My preferred beach was Prieta. Also, there are supermarkets around, so you can buy the ingredients and cook by yourself, or visit restaurants. We visited different restaurants and concurred that the ceviche with maracuya sauce was the better (some restaurant in Las Catalinas $$$). Oceana serves good food ($$$$$, size is small, at the Flamingo Marina). Me Gusta (Italian cuisine $$$) had good pizza. El Reparito ($$$, mexican oriented - I loved the place) was tasteful, El Gallo Ronco ($$$) was good, as well. I found MarCosta seafood market well provided they gave nice attention. They also rent a floating deck in the Potrero bay or give boat tours.

I was in Potrero for 3 nights alone on business.

I was in Potrero for 3 nights alone on business. The location is quite and off the tourist map. There are a few local restaurants and bars, but not a lot going on. Its a great place to get away and relax, but pretty remote from all of the major destinations. There are other even more remote beaches just north of here that are worth visiting, so a few days here can be worth it.

It was a beautiful beach.

It was a beautiful beach. Not near as busy and crowded as Coco Beach or Tamarindo Beach. We were able to access the beach with a short walk from our Hotel. The sunsets from this beach are incredible.

Potrero is a charming and walkable beach town with plenty of dining options. While the beach itself was decent, it wasn’t our favorite—the sand is darker and the water less clear. We preferred Playa Conchal for snorkeling and Playa Danta or Dantita for swimming. That said, we appreciated Potrero’s more local feel, with a strong Tico presence, unlike the more tourist-heavy vibe of Playa Flamingo and Las Catalinas. Potrero’s central location makes it a great base for exploring nearby beaches. We especially recommend Hemingway’s on the beach—it’s family-friendly with fun activities like bean bag toss and a slackline. Our waiter, Joseph, was outstanding—knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Don’t miss the beautiful sunset views from there!

We enjoyed the various towns and beaches located in the Potrero area. The restaurant selection was very good. Everyone was kind and helpful. It was nice to encounter local people and tourists enjoying the area. The area felt safe. Driving in the area requires the drivers full attention, skill and patience. We learned that it is a must to have transportation to fully enjoy h3 many beautiful opportunities in Potrero.

The BE Hotel is a bit out of the way but close to the center...

The BE Hotel is a bit out of the way but close to the center of Potrero. This town is lively, as there are stores and places to eat. There is also a school and a large sports field. You can see the working atmosphere here - there is construction work going on in many places. A little farther from the center on side streets you can admire beautiful villas, which are adjacent to modest houses. A few hundred meters behind the hotel you can meet grazing horses and cattle. Flowering shrubs and trees decorate it all. Our attention was drawn to the large number of free-roaming dogs of very gentle disposition. We did not once encounter aggression between them as well as towards us - they would come up and greet us in a friendly manner. From the BE hotel it is also a few hundred meters to Playa Penca. Here there is yellow sand and off-season perfect tranquility. During these two weeks, the number of people using this 750-meter beach varied from 6 (!!) to 60 people depending on the day.

I had the absolute best time staying at Casa Papito. The hosts, Daniel and Charlotte, were friendly, accommodating and welcoming my whole stay with them. Such lovely people. Great communication. They have a beautiful home, warm pool and it's all a short walk from the beach and local amenities and restaurants. My room was spacious and clean, as was kitchen space. I would recommend, especially for solo travellers like myself - would also suit couples and families.

Playa Penca was close by and is a very nice, not so busy beach. Playa Potrero is also not far to walk to. There were a couple grocery stores and restaurants close by. The pool is only several steps from the villa's door, but there is still plenty of privacy. Many places at and around the villa to sit and relax in the shade. The villa was comfortable, quiet and provided everything that we needed.
