This little hotel is a complete gem. It is exactly as in the pictures .Wonderful first night in CR. A traditional building with lovely veranda under the trees. It is 600m (yes 600m) from the AVIS car rental office at airport but not under flight path so minimal noise. The garden is so beautiful, the rooms, restaurant and pool are simple but ample and clean. Staff helpful. Good directions for getting west/north . Already booked to return.

Authentic costarican hotel. Beautiful pool with loungers, beautiful flowers and amazing cacti, view of the mountains. Comfy clean rooms, nice bathroom, no air but high ceiling with a ceiling fan we were comfortable in february. Hostess was welcoming and accommodating, great breakfast outside. We had a short walk to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. Shuttle to airport not included but the hotel arranged it for us.

"Escondida" (hidden) is really not exaggerated. The Airbnb is really an oasis is an otherwise rather ordinary and rather busy city what Alajuela is. But within the Hacienda, it's all peace and quiet, with a wonderful view on a rather large garden an a swimming pool with the perfect temperature. The rooms are impeccably clean and spacy. But what interested me at least equally was the fact that I discovered actually flies of the fly family I am specialized in, which was a great surprise. Hence the score 10/10 for our residence.

The owners are lovely, they offer a transfer from the airport which is only 16 mins away into nature... the property is magical. The breakfast was delicious and beds were comfortable. Highly recommend!

San Antonio itself is a great base to travel from, it is close to Airport and to Car rentals, there are Supermarkets nearby also if self catering, however it is a little too far from other central attentions if your intension is to stay in San Jose itself.

Cute little town near the airport.

Cute little town near the airport. Probably not a destination, but, if you have a night to kill before flying out, it's fine. Otherwise, there isn't anything I know of to draw visitors. Couple cute restaurants on the main street. Felt safe walking around after dark.

We did more in San Antonio than we expected to do.

We did more in San Antonio than we expected to do. The church in the center of town was welcoming, and there are a lot of restaurants with good food and service. The bussing to other areas (San Jose and Heredia) is well marked and has an appropriate schedule. Plus, the area felt safe to walk after sunset. Because of its convivence, we extended our hotel stay to stay in the area, and only bussed to San Jose for the day.

For us La Rivera is a take off and arrival point, so the easy airport access is important. It is an easy walk to a phone store or Pali supermarket for some basics, and the local pista, church and park give you a safe introduction to Costa Rica. There is not much else to do in the immediate area.

This was our third stay. We love the restaurant connected to the hotel and the 24 hour airport shuttle service is reliable and friendly. The food and atmosphere t the restaurant is so much better than at chain hotels. This time we stayed in one of the superior rooms and it was definitely worth the extra money. A down side is the barking dogs in the neighborhood. This is the second time that has been an issue. The hotel itself is quiet and peaceful but the dogs bark right through the night. Not uncommon for Costa Rica but annoying regardless.

This hotel was a gem! The photos did not do it justice. We booked it for our last night in Costa Rica and enjoyed it greatly. The surroundings and decor were tasteful. My husband also enjoyed a dip in the pool. A big thank you to the staff members as they were exceptionally nice and helpful - I don't like coriander and the staff members did everything to make sure I would have no coriander in my food. If we go back to Costa Rica we will book a longer stay in this hotel as they also organise wildlife trips.
