FAQs about hotels in Hamburg

The Real Venice of the North

With more canals than Amsterdam and Venice combined and over 2300 bridges, Hamburg is an independent city-state with the Europe’s second busiest port and one of Germany's most popular football teams, Hamburg SV.

No trip to Hamburg is complete without a visit to the city’s old warehouse district, the Speicherstadt, and the popular harbour promenade, the Landungsbrücken. The best and most popular way to explore the city is by boat or a ferry so you can truly admire the stunning architecture and the city’s waterways.

The impressive City Hall and the popular St. Michaelis church will awe any visitor and music fans should seek out the Indra and the Star Club, where the Beatles played between 1960 and 1962. For a different look at Hamburg, moonlit strolls in the Reeperbahn will bring visitors through the largest red light district in Europe. Hamburg is famous for its local dishes, the Birnen, Bohnen and Speck, the Aalsuppe and the open-faced sandwiches with cold-smoked or pickled fish. The laid-back cafés of Schanze neighbourhood and barbecues on a beach along the Elbe River are great ways to relax after heavy sightseeing.

The city centre can be reached from Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport and Hamburg-Lübeck Airport using either train or bus services. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel, traditional apartment or youth hostel, Booking.com has everything you need for you Hamburg holiday.

I have previously lived near Hamburg around 7 years, but even now when I no longer live here, I like to bring my friends and relatives to show them this beautiful city. I wouldn’t really recommend Hamburg during winter, unless you really want to experience the Christmas decorations and markets. During the summer Hamburg is much more enjoyable, multiple rivers, beautiful parks, and a variety of attractions to choose from. Unfortunately there is not much out of nightlife, or perhaps I didn’t manage to find something reasonably interesting for myself, maybe you will do better. Accessible transportation everywhere, buses, trains and subways. If you stay here for less than 7 days, a day pass is really worth it. Inform yourself about the regions of Hamburg, to not have a bad experience, there are some places where you might be afraid to be alone at night (or it might be just me who’s feeling like this, as I’m a girl). Always choose stays near train stations. You won’t go wrong with it. If you manage to catch Hamburger Dom being open, go for it, feels like a small festival with multiple attractions. Hafen City is always pretty, any time, just to walk by the river is already pretty. Elbtunnel is interesting to go through even though it’s just the tunnel that might look interesting. You may as well catch pretty views from the coast. Elbphilarmonie has free tickets to the terrace which gives you a nice view over Hamburg. During summer the park where the Hamburg Planetarium is located, is very populated with people doing different activities. If you’re a lot of people you might want to go to enjoy the sun, and play some games outside. There you can also find something to eat and drink if you need. Alton Altonaer Balkon at night is very pretty. Gives you a view over the docks, especially at night. Heilwigpark is also nice. Apart from Hamburg, take a day to visit Schwerin. You can walk around the castle and chill on its small park.

There is always plenty to do, from shopping and culture with great places for food. The harbour is a great place to spend some time. If you have a day travel card you can take a ride on one of the ferries, included in the price. I recommend the 66 to Finkenwerder and back.

We were there for the Christmas markets and they delivered.

We were there for the Christmas markets and they delivered. St Pauli was an alternative market but very laid back and fun. The flying Sleigh and Father Christmas in the larger market was so lovely. We went up to the UP20 cocktail bar and the view was fabulous. Elbe tunnel was the highlight ss we had seen it often on tv and the construction is incredible.

Went there for Xmas markets.

Went there for Xmas markets. Such a huge range and great quality items. It was so good, my 6 year old did not want to go home.. Food in restaurants was superb and great value compared to london. We only seen the centre of Hamburg and all three of us decided to go back next year for Xmas market. We had been to Lille a previous year and was a very distant second.

Beautiful old building divided into different hotels on every floor. A lift is provided. The area is the most beautiful in Hamburg, very exclusive neighbourhood. There are restaurants scattered but also a short walk to cafes, supermarket, hairdresser, ect. The staff are wonderfully kind, and delightful and go out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect . It is also a 5 min walk to Dammtor Train station which has trains departing all over Germany and Europe.

In a good location with walking distance to main sites in Hamburg. Friendly staff and bonus Privat parking ( paid 15 euros a day) considering location that was good. Nice room and clean. Compare to other hotels the price was worth it. Especially compared to the cheaper hotels near by.

Nothing particular in general. I am a regular customer at Leonardo, but this one is not as good as the other Leonardo hotels in Germany, or even the other one in Hamburg Nord. It's maybe okay as a stop in transit, as you can relax in sauna.

The rooms are cleaned, staff at reception gave me directions and a map on how to get to the city centre by bus. I saw lots of families with children. I loved the breakfast buffet. I greatly recommend Dorint Hotel Hamburg-Eppendorf.

There are only two positives about this hotel - the friendly and cheerful manager/receptionist and its close proximity to Hamburg's Central Railway Station, the Central Bus Station and the city centre.
