Delightful old town with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Lovely old buildings, especially the almshouses and the church. Friendly people. Good eating places. Smashed avocado at The Pablo Lounge is excellent! Good location for catching a bus into Oxford or for exploring the area generally. Walks along river delightful.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Cosener's House in Abingdon, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! This historic hotel, with its beautiful surroundings and rich character, truly exceeded my expectations. The location is perfect – nestled right on the banks of the River Thames, offering picturesque views and tranquil riverside walks just steps away. It’s an ideal base for exploring the charming town of Abingdon, with its cobbled streets, historic buildings, and the stunning Abingdon Abbey just a short stroll away. Abingdon itself is a lovely town, full of character and history, yet it’s incredibly accessible to Oxford and the surrounding areas. The train station is just a short walk away, and getting into Oxford takes only about 20 minutes by train – so you can easily enjoy the best of both worlds: the peace and beauty of Abingdon, with quick access to the culture and attractions of Oxford. The Cosener's House itself was amazing – the rooms were comfortable and well-equipped, and the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. The hotel’s peaceful setting by the river was perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing, and the charming surroundings made it feel like a true retreat. I highly recommend The Cosener's House to anyone visiting Abingdon. It’s a wonderful place to stay and a perfect spot to explore this beautiful town and its stunning river views, with easy access to Oxford and beyond. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Abingdon on Thames is a splendid town.

Abingdon on Thames is a splendid town. The river is dominant but lots of good history (MG cars being my favourite) . Near enough to get to Oxford and Didcot for tourist sites. Town Hall Museum is great. Lots of great pubs!!

Before going to the hotel we parked up in Abingdon to look round the shops. First stop was a Costa for lunch and use the toilet. Very close by there was a market selling craft, food and other. Across the road there was a Coventry Building Society, charity shops, and other shops. Close by there are old builds, and museums.

we stayed in the Crown and Thistle for our last two nights and it was superb. Brilliant staff and superior food. We loved the town itself and the museum. Loved the walk along the river to Clifton Hampden - so pretty. Loved the food and service at The Nags Head. We come to Abingdon about once a year and totally love it. Would highly recommend it as a destination

Some of Abingdon is absolutely lovely, and some is absolutely not. Same as most places. The old part of the town is noticeably pleasant. Around the river and the county hall. The pedestrian precinct is not an area of beauty. Street St has really good independent shops - books, wool, kitchen etc. Masons on Bath St is a fantastic haberdashery. The Abbey Meadows are very nice, best children's playground in Britain, probably.

We were walking the Ridgeway trail in daily bites and this was a great location for the week. It has 2 double beds with separate toilet/bath shower so is ideally suited for 2 couples. Also has 2 parking bays right outside the property. It’s nice and newish as well. Good heating system so nice n toasty. It was also nicely situated centrally in Abingdon with a very good pub just a short walk away and lots of eateries and bars.

Great location for visiting Abingdon and Didcot amongst other towns in a small village with a nice restaurant and pub. Lovely property set back off the street so it’s very quiet and private. The annexe is very clean and has lovely fresh bedding and decor. Nice treats upon arrival - milk, biscuits and wine. And tea, coffee and sugar plus oils and seasonings available for use at the property. Everything’s been thought of.

Lovely hotel, warm welcome and a nice spacious room with a comfortable bed. Good directions given for parking. Breakfast was amazing with friendly service and a good selection cooked to order. Abingdon itself is a very nice place to visit - we had a couple of good walks along the Thames path and hired a rowing boat for a couple of hours (from AV boats - also highly recommended!) which was good fun!

The hotel is in a particularly beautiful part of Abingdon with many Medieval buildings nearby. Our room had a lovely view over the garden and River Thames. The hotel is in a good , quiet location, and within easy walking distance from all the delights of the town centre. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were very attentive and helpful. This is my second stay at The Coseners House.

The hosts were friendly and very happy to help with any questions or requests. The property was very clean, tidy and comfortable with all the usual facilities in place and ready on time. We enjoyed our stay here and Abingdon is beautiful and only 30 minutes from Oxford.
