Pretty stone village with 500 people, 3 pubs and some shops. Inside the village an alleyway leads to a footpath to a hill with a spectacular 360 view of the area (2 mins from centre of village), and locals told us of a spectacular waterfall that isn't on Google maps, about 20 mins walk from the village, well worth visiting if you a a confident walker.

I loved Askrigg---I went there because I am a fan of the original "All Creatures Great and Small." I would love to go there again and spend more time in the Dales. I've been there five or six times and am never disappointed!

A charming and quiet village, full of honey coloured cottages and little nooks and crannies. A lovely craft shop and a couple of bakeries and general stores. Good eating choices for day and evening.

Nice place, 3 pubs.

Nice place, 3 pubs. We went in September so one pub open all the time. One pub closed at 2pm reopened about 4ish. The other at the top of the village we only went in the once and informed they only did food 2 evenings a week? One shop for essentials and one cafe with 3 tables on the road side. A gift type shop with pictures etc. There were short car journeys to other areas of North Yorkshire from Askrigg. There was a bus service from the village. There were quite a few walkers.

Askrigg is an excellent base for touring the magnificent Yorkshire Dales. Roads over the hills to Swaledale are spectacular and rather narrow in parts (but well worth the occasional exciting meetings with traffic heading in the opposite direction). Tourist sites in Wensleydale are more easily accessed on wider roads so Hawes, Aysgarth and Leyburn visits are "a doddle."

One of the most appealing villages in the Yorkshire Dales.

One of the most appealing villages in the Yorkshire Dales. Although Askrigg is steeped in history and has hosted the famous All Creatures Great and Small programme, it does also boast 3 good quality but very different pubs which allow an enjoyable mini pub crawl if you like that sort of thing!

A complete home from home. Such a cosy cottage and great location. Some lovely walks from the cottage into the beautiful countryside. Askrigg also has 3 great pubs. We had an amazing Sunday Lunch in the Middle House... one I will be dreaming of for years to come! Also good live music in the King's Head. Not far from Hawes which has some lovely boutique shops, and can't miss going to the Wensleydale Creamery, where you can sample their cheeses before you buy! Would definitely recommend this cottage and one we would go back to stay in.

The room was delightful - spacious, nicely furnished, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We chose the option of a private sitting room for a very modest additional amount, and this provided a large TV, sofa and armchair, table and chairs, and kitchenette with fridge and microwave. The owners were friendly and welcoming, and the breakfasts were superb. Fantastic value. The location is great for touring the dales and there are many good walks from Askrigg.

My one night stay at Thornsgill House at Askrigg was a real highlight of my walk across Yorkshire and one that was clearly not enough. So next year I'll be returning again to enjoy one of the best bed and breakfasts I gave ever stayed at. Everything was excellent. The welcome, the bedroom, and the breakfast. Thanks Anne & Barry for getting me back to fitness to tackle Day 2 of 8 through the Dales.
