The lake itself is very large but not accessible all the way round. There is a lovely walk around Mire House and gardens which takes you down to the lake and to a beautiful church. Park at Dodd Forest car park and it is just over the road. If you can get to Bassenthwaite Lake Station its a must for a fabulous meal (we had breakfast) on a train carriage - highly recommended. If you follow the road down from the station Pheasant Inn is a lovely spot for lunch or dinner and very dog friendly.

Beautiful location, comfortable & luxurious accommodation with wonderful restaurants. Most pleasing aspect was that it was quiet and restful with attentive staff. Left feeling totally relaxed and refreshed. It was expensive but worth every penny.

A great place to relax and explore the northern Lakes.

A great place to relax and explore the northern Lakes. Keswick is only a 10 minute drive, with a great array of shops, cafes etc. The Sun Inn in Bassenthwaite village is excellent - good beer and tasty food. The Pheasant Inn is a GREAT place to stay - charming county style without being twee. Quiet and peaceful - a lovely place to retreat from the world.

Everything about our stay was very good, nothing to report otherwise. We like the area with the wonderful views. We ate at the Inn and found the menu much to our choices of meals on offer and very well cooked, full of flavour.

Stayed at a caravan and camping site in our motorhome in Braithwaite village. A lovely setting with close local amenities and a bus stop to Keswick and Workington every hour for £3 pp. bargain even though we had bus passes. I tried fly fishing on Bassenthwaite lake but found limited access and a plethora of paddle boarders, wild swimmers pleasure craft etc which spoilt the tranquility of the protected area. I paid £7 per day , not sure what charges were directed at other users. However overall a breathtaking area and at this time of year not too busy.

Fantastic view of Lake District hill and waterfall. The house is the only one in the valley on the northern side of Skiddaw and is very quiet with no traffic noise. A wild flower meadow immediately in front of it is full of insects.and is used by a hare. Well equipped kitchen and enormous bath. It is an old building which is full of character.

One of the nicest and best equipped caravans we’ve ever stayed in. Everything was excellent quality, the beds in particular were extremely comfy. Great walks about the park and only 10 mins from Cockermouth, 15 mins from Keswick. Amazing value for our week in February and would definitely return.
