I absolutely loved staying here, but it won’t be for everyone. This former stately home is only half renovated with large areas still to be finished. I was a bit concerned before checking in about other reviews saying it wasn’t very clean but our room was spotless with a huge roll too bath and marble floors. The beds were soooo comfy. Some other comunal areas were a little tired so perhaps they could be cleaner but they are the rooms that are awaiting renovation and it’s more wear than dirt that’s the problem. Despite some small niggles Islay House has so much history and the building itself is stunning. Perfectly situated, quiet, peaceful and great views. Ali the main ‘concierge’ (if you can call him that as it’s really more of a b&b) was affable and helpful always, even showing me the buildings plans because I was asking about the closed off areas. If I ever go back to Islay I will 100% stay there again. The breakfast absolutely slapped, by far the best we had anywhere on our trip.

I can’t say enough nice things about this place! We booked rather last minute and it was the only place left in town. We weren’t expecting much but boy were we surprised! We had a room with a detached prive bath which was clean, conveniently located and much easier than it sounds. The room was so quiet and comfortable. By far the best part was the staff!! A rather large storm came through, canceling the ferries and forcing us to change plans. AJ was SO helpful with weather, ferry schedules and even packed us a breakfast to go as we had to leave early. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to my friends.

Bridgend is located about 15 minutes from the ferry terminal in Port Askaig (Islay). The town is centrally located to both the Northern and Southern distillery districts. If you are not a whisky enthusiast, birdwatching, hiking, and great scenery are only a short drive away.

I can’t say enough about this marvellous place. The beautiful setting, the attentive and friendly staff, the food, the very comfortable room … it was all fantastic and added up to an unforgettable experience that I would love to do again. Thanks for the magic.

Make Bridgend your base for Whisky and wildlife tours.

Make Bridgend your base for Whisky and wildlife tours. A very comfortable hotel, with great food. But, unless you have your own car you must book a guide to take you around the island. The buses (and Bridgend is very well situated for them) are irregular and stop at 5pm, don't run at all on Sundays. So if you're out makes sure you've booked your way back!

The Bridgend is well located on the island. The restaurant is good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was disappointing but the bed was comfortable and the shower hot. 3 days on Islay was a good time but could easily stay longer.

Bridgend expertly handles what must regularly be a full house for lodging, dinner, breakfast, and more. Its central location to the sites and destinations across Islay make it a great launching point from which to explore, but it was also nice to return at the end of the day to relax and recover.

This is an amazing building with great potential once it is refurbished. The room was large, very well appointed and many good features such as the large bed, occasional furniture, coffee making facilities and luxurious bathroom with very nice toiletries. The breakfast room was nice and staff were friendly and helpful. Look forward to seeing it when completed. Good communication with hotel staff prior to arrival which had been disrupted by a cancelled ferry.

So just to recap: I loved this hotel and hope I get to go back.
