The surrounding area is beautiful and well worth exploring.

The surrounding area is beautiful and well worth exploring. Rogie falls, the Touchstone Maze, Fyrish Monument and hill walk are all very close. The old train station of Strathpeffer is worth a look and there is also castle Leod, the seat of the Mackenzie clan which inspired the author of Outlander when writing her books, but check the website as it is only open certain days of the year. Dingwall is a good base when exploring other small towns also. It sit near a river which provides beautiful sunrises and views of the geese flying overhead

Dingwall was central to a lot we wished to visit.

Dingwall was central to a lot we wished to visit. Maybe it because we are happy to jump in a car and go see but we went as far Dunrobin castle in the north to Culloden. which we found easy. The town of Beauly is a must go and see. As was Dunrobin and Culloden. The Black Isle is a beautiful area too and we wished we had the time to see more

Dingwall is a pleasant, old-style country town of small shops and cheerful people. Like everywhere in Britain, there are signs of social deprivation, but as a visitor you are made to feel very welcome. It is a great centre for touring in your own vehicle or like us, public transport. The Kyle of Lochalsh and Far North railways set off from Dingwall. Closer are the spa town of Strathpeffer and the Black Isle. Take the hourly bus 27 from Hill Street to Strathpeffer, and walk back along the newly-opened old railway trail to Dingwall, or along the adjacent hills, with stunning views. Forget crowded Inverness, Dingwall has character!

Very, very quiet town. Had an apocalyptic feel at all time.

Very, very quiet town. Had an apocalyptic feel at all time. Really nothing to do at any time of the day. Local food selection (restaurant wise) is poor, Tesco is very well equipped. The town as a whole is a nice place to stay if you plan to only sleep there, a good connection to the highlands.

Dingwall is a quiet market town, with reasonable good facilities. The rail connections are great, you can get seamlessly to Inverness airport, along the north east coast or out into the more remote highlands. There are some interesting businesses on the high street which still cater mostly for the local population Cafe’s, Butcher, grocers, hardware etc a couple of supermarkets and filing stations. As well as being a good place to get provision the drive from Dingwall to the highlands takes you through extremely scenic the spa town of Strathpeffer.

I've enjoyed visiting Dingwall on many occasions over quite a few years now. There are a few nice restaurants to enjoy eating out, we thoroughly enjoy eating at the Indian restaurants. Also there are a few supermarkets near at hand. Road, rail, and bus connections make it so easy to get out and about, so even though Dingwall is quite a small place it has however everything you need at hand and a nice base to stay for visiting this beautiful part of the Highlands.

We were travelling south after touring the far north of Scotland so location was perfect. The hotel was extremely comfortable in every way, well renovated and decorated, very clean with just a generally pleasant ambiance. The evening meal and breakfast were of a very high standard and delicious. A bonus that the breakfast was individually cooked to order. Very polite, helpful staff in all settings.

Passable - What previous guests thought, 648 reviews
The hotel is currently being renovated, so you could get allocated a freshly done room which are great, or a room awaiting renovation which aren't so great. We got one of each! But it's central, it's quiet and there's parking supplied across the road. Nice continental breakfast provided in the morning. The owner is very nice and gave great recommendations for places to eat in Dingwall.

We had decided to break our rail journey at Dingwall which is not a town I recommend visiting though this hotel was in a very pleasant location oOut of town on the edge of the countryside. The exterior of the hotel did look like a small castle. The foyer of the hotel appropriately matched the exterior image of an old Scottish Castle. The dining room was pleasant.
