We love Hawes.

We love Hawes. It is a great base to explore the surrounding dales and other villages from. Hawes itself is full of good places to eat mostly cafes or Hotel based - special mention to Mandy and Angus who run the Fountain Hotel and Pub - amazing food, ales and atmosphere. Their steak pie is really special. Special mentions to the Ice Cream Parlour, Penny Garth Cafe and The Chippie. Great independent shops and Wensleydale Creamery is also worth a visit, fab cheese shop. The people local and tourist alike all seem very pleasant and we had many happy chats along the way. It is an oldy worldy little town which is so nice to walk around and explore. Although we stayed Mon - Thurs during April, it was warm and sunny and the tourists seemed a mix of older folks like ourselves and younger (and older) walkers as the countryside around the town and beyond is stunning. We will be back again soon.

Hawes is one of my favourite places.

Hawes is one of my favourite places. Wensleydale creamery for superb cheese, the Dales Countryside Museum at the old station and old rope works are all interesting. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking with walks for all abilities. There are loads of pubs and cafes and a smattering of local shops to explore. This is a real honey pot for daytrippers in the summer and its amenities attract walkers all year round. I would highly recommend visiting.

Amazing market town, surrounded by stunning scenery.

Amazing market town, surrounded by stunning scenery. Best place to eat is the White Hart Inn, which is usually very busy so booking a table may be advised. As a disabled person who struggles to get around I found it flat and manageable.
