Victorian Resort with a Welsh Twist
The most popular Wales seaside resort, Llandudno covers a peninsula with 2 sandy coastlines. The North Shore’s wide Victorian promenade is lined with period buildings which now house seafront hotels and guest houses. The beach itself stretches all the way between the Little Orme and Great Orme headlands, passing an outdoor swimming pool.
A historic tram climbs to the peak of Great Orme, where Bronze Age copper mines can be visited. The top is also reachable by cable car from Happy Valley, a recreation area with gardens and an artificial ski slope.
A road runs around the base of the headland passing the historic Grand Hotel, a property available on Booking.com and overlooking the Grade II-listed pier – the longest in Wales. The West Shore is much less developed and the Maesdu Golf Course forms most of its shoreline.
Of course, Llandudno has its fair share of traditional seaside pursuits such as donkey rides and fish and chip shops.
The town also has a modern retail park near the train station and Venue Cymru event centre, and wrought-iron canopies shade smaller shops along Mostyn Avenue, Broadway and Street. The latter - Mostyn Street - is effectively the high street and becomes brightly decorated during the Victorian carnival in May.

All good loved the performances on the Band Stand, beautiful traditional seaside town, well served shopping area and plenty of bars and restaurants. Excellent for families and visitors of all ages. I have mobility difficulties, so hired a scooter from on line local company, it was delivered to the hotel and collected when we left, great fun, so handy and £25 for 24 hours. So much to do for all ages.
So much to do for all ages. The ski centre, the tram up the great orme. The best high street we've seen in years, could have spent a full day just walking that. Interesting pubs, axe throwing and magic to name a couple. Some fabulous food places. But best of all never once feeling ripped off, prices were within reach. Cottage loaf great gastro pub. We had a lovely stroll along the front and on the pier. There were quite a few people but not so busy you couldn’t appreciate the surroundings. We eat at The Cottage Loaf twice, I fully recommend it there. A great menu, all cooked to perfection and good value for your money. We wanted to find a bar with some music on in the evening and we did. The Irish bar and The town house were both good. Llandudno is a lovely, traditional Victorian seaside resort, complete with original pier. It is easy to get around the town on foot, with many shopping arcades to suit all tastes. There are various museums and art galleries, plus the Venue Cymru theatre. You can go up the Great Orme by Tram or Cable Car [weather permitting!], where you will find the Copper Mines, Ski-Slope, Toboggan-ride and Crazy Golf. There are also various bus tours available, including the Hop-on, Hop-off bus, and also a little train which takes you around Marine Drive.
