We thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay in this comfortable, self-contained unit. The little out-house is situated right at the end of a narrow lane in the quiet village of Marnhull. Although the weather was cold (well below zero for some of the time), we found the unit comfortable and cosy - it was quick and easy to heat with the two installed electric heaters. The location was ideal for exploring the Shaftesbury area and (for us) visiting relatives who live in the vicinity. The hosts were helpful and friendly.

Living in the USA we visit Shaftesbury for family. The Royal Chase is my consistent go-to hotel, and this time as usual I booked three rooms for two nights with a lot of food and beverage. 1) Easily accessible location, not in town but on a main roundabout. 2) Style, traditional old English hotel. The windows may be old but the rooms and bathrooms are excellently refurbished. 3) Parking. Other local Shaftesbury hotels are in town and parking is an issue. The Royal Chase has 3) Restaurant - quiet, not the most adventurous menu and my guess is a lot of from-the-freezer dishes. But they do it well, rise to the occasion of a large table and the informality is great for my needs. 4) The all-female (see below) staff are consistently friendly, helpful, responsive.

Positioned between Shaftsbury and Sherborne, Marnhull is the perfect place to explore this area. Marnhull is a large village with a very rural feel. Avoid Love Lane it’s a single track road. There are some blind bends and tricky crossroads heading towards Sherborne.

The local Spar shop was friendly and had good fresh food.

The local Spar shop was friendly and had good fresh food. As a cyclist, the small detour of the Sustains route was a bit of a shame but not too bad. Worth it for the accommodation and it's tranquil leafy setting.

Fantastic quiet place.

Fantastic quiet place. Beautiful house in amazingly beautiful village. Hosts so friendly and accommodating. Comfortable bed great amenities. Lovely breakfasts. Would recommend to anyone. Going to return.

The village has a lot going for it.

The village has a lot going for it. It's location is very good for the northern half of Dorset. The locals are very friendly and happy to pass the time of day with visitors. The 2 pubs are very welcoming and certainly worth a visit.

We liked being near the end of a lane, so that there was no passing traffic. The hosts were responsive, friendly, flexible and helpful, but left us to do our own thing. We appreciated the milk left in the fridge for a cuppa. We liked the plenty of window and glass doors (the kitchen door nicely opaqued) for light and ventilation. There were net curtains in the bedroom/living area, for privacy when needed, but easily drawn back to enjoy more light and the owner's garden and the field beyond.

Our second stay at Yew Tree View, great value for money, well equipped, clean, warm, easy check in (key safe). Although compact, the kitchen has a small fridge, a two plate hob and microwave, plus plenty of utensils, pans etc so self catering is perfectly feasible - we ate in 3 nights out of 4. Marnhull is a lovely village, and the food at the Crown is great. Lots of walks nearby, fields rather muddy at the moment but that's hardly surprising given the recent rain!

Chris and Mella were fantastic hosts! Lovely and friendly and always on hand to ask any questions. The breakfasts were incredible, and without doubt some of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve had! The B&B has a lovely homely feel with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable. Ample parking round the back of the property and within walking distance to plenty of amenities in Marnhull.

It was self-contained, with everything we needed. We cooked a meal and then walked to the pub in Marnhull for a drink, and back in the dark with head torches. It's a lovely old pub and complemented our stay at Yew Tree View.

Loved that it was like a hotel suite with a little kitchen area. We walked to the local pub which is about 20 minutes away. A lovely place.
