Portpatrick is a small village by the sea.
Portpatrick is a small village by the sea. Most hotels are within a short walking distance of the harbour. There are cliffs on either side of the seafront that provide stunning views of the Irish sea and on a good day Mallin Head in Ballycastle and the Mourne Mountains can be seen (both in Northern Ireland). I was expecting there to be the standard takeaways but there seemed to be only one fish and chip shop that closed in the late afternoon. The Waterfront Hotel provided a great meal every evening though. Portpatrick is a lovely rugged place with great views, nice walks and a friendly welcome from those we met. Plenty of parking spaces and a very nice hostelry, the Crown hotel, which serves the best food around. I would really recommend staying there if you liked walking , especially the coastal routes and for some peace and quiet. Fabulous clifftop walks to abandoned castles or sweeping bays. Portpatrick is a quaint seaside village with great access to the outdoors. A good stay, in my opinion, is all down to the weather. Unfortunately the prices in the sea front bars are 'city prices' with a pint of lager coming in at £6.50. Usual prices in the region vary from around £4.00 - £4.50. The room was clean but it wasn’t serviced during our stay. The evening meal was really nice but on our first breakfast they had run out of choices which was poor. Liked all the 3 nights we were there, the DB&B deal was very good, as was the food and staff. The rooms were great, I think I have stayed in 4 of them up to now.
