Redcar (-by-the-sea) is trying hard to get back to its glory...

Redcar (-by-the-sea) is trying hard to get back to its glory days (before the peers were demolished) with the refurbishment of the town centre. The beach is long and sandy and the sea water clear and swimmable if you avoid the rocks. The promenade is worth a walk, passed the fishing boats and the oldest lifeboat in the world museum. Not many restaurants but plenty of cafes.

I have been to Redcar many times over the years and it looks like the local council are spending a lot of money on the place to bring it up to scratch. The shopping area is becoming very tidy but the sea front still needs a bit of attention but I`m sure they will get there in the end.

If you like a drinks bargain in a welcoming friendly pub visit the Pig and Whistle, don't be put off by the looks. They couldn't be more friendly if they tried. They don't serve food or have live music but have a great Juke box and snacks.

Only thing good about Redcar was its closeness to saltburn.

Only thing good about Redcar was its closeness to saltburn. The promenade, and ice cream. It is a sad and run down town. Full of druggies, vagrants and pissheads. Nothing but charity, and Beauty enhancement shops. Even KFC couldn’t survive. personally don’t think blowing a shed load of tax payers money on a new library is going to help.

We have always loved Redcar and the local people here , its beaches and coastal walks are so refreshing , also the variety of shops are quite pleasing , although now as the same as a lot of shopping areas across the North East a number of them have closed down , but Redcar seems to be "hanging in there" and shops are still open and enjoyable for us holiday makers to shop in . Would recommend this hotel and redcar to all our friends and family as the accommodation and warmth you get here is something that all holiday travelers and guests should experience .

The location is perfect. Redcar and the surroundings are a hidden gem. Couldn't thank Andy more for the wonderful stay and his warm hospitality. My family and I really enjoyed our stay, and I would highly recommend Dovehouses.
